If I were elite (say top 100 in my field) then athlete. The 100th best WR can get paid a million a year. The 100th best bassist work a side job to pay his rent.
If I were just very good (maybe the 1000th best) then musician. The 1000th best WR plays flag football with his accountant friends and talks about his 50 college catches to the ladies. The 1000th best bassist does three gigs a week and gets free beer at all of them.
