Re: OT: NFL Network: Top 10 College Coaching Flops
I was watching the "America's Game" series on NFL Network the other night on the '93 Cowboys. Jimmy Johnson was one of the three interviewees, and he said that immediately after winning the Super Bowl he wasn't sure if he wanted to come back. He said that he never coached anywere longer than five straight years, and thought it might be time to move on. A night at a bar drinking with Jerry Jones got pretty heated, and apparently things were said which helped Johnson out the door. Officially, it was a mutual parting.
Good thing too -- the 'chips might have won two more in a row if he'd stayed. As much as I hate to admit it, they had a helluva team. |

Considering Johnsons philosophy on getting young this makes alot of sense. He knew how to build a team, but not how to rebuild it. Could you honestly see him getting rid of the tripplets for youth had he stayed longer (a few more seasons)? According to his ideals on youth he would have had to. He was too close to his stars for that IMO (based on player commentary). |
