Re: Offer made on Chad
Thank God that the Bengals can save us from ourselves.
How dopey is it to come this far with all your picks just to hand them out at the last second. So much for draft disicipline. This annoys me and doesn't bode well for who they think is going to be available with the 21st pick in the draft. One week before the draft they want to heave their draft stratedy out the window, I'm annoyed.

B) Even if the report was 100% accurate it was a 1st and a conditional 3rd in '09 that could escalate to a 1st. The escalator clauses would probably be include some or all of things like - Pro Bowl selection, All-Pro selection, 1,400-1,500 yards receiving, 10+ TDs, Conference Championship appearance, or the like. I'm sure the escalators weren't catch 25 passes for 300 yards. They were likely team/individual performance levels that, if met, would have us forgetting about giving up the picks. The Dolphins made a trade like this several years ago for Ricky Williams. it was a conditional pick that eventually escalated to a 1st when Ricky rushed for 1,800 yards. Now over the long term Ricky didn't pan out in Miami, but that first year he was dominant. If we could get Owens/Moss like production out of Johnson (I'd assume the escalators kicked in with elite level performance) then two 1sts could be worth it. But it wasn't just two 1sts straight up. Get it straight, it was a 1st and a conditional 3rd - and that assumes the report was 100%.

Re: Offer made on Chad
We may have offered a first round pick and a lower pick, but don't buy into the the two first round picks. Everyone is blowing smoke with their "team
and league sources". They're all using the media as a negotiating tool. I'm sure anything beyond the first round pick would have all kinds of conditions attached. All this pre-draft hype and trade talks is worse than a bunch of dealers at a used car auction. |

1) Chad goddam Johnson is NOT in the same league as Jerry Rice, Randy Moss, et al, as some have said. That's insane. He's not even the best reciever on his own team, much less all-time great.
2) He plays with an elite NFL QB, and is trashing his team publically because they are not winning. Newsflash: The Skins are a LONG way from being a contender. 3) Do you think getting screamed at on the sideline by some prima dona bitch is gonna help Jason Campbell's confidence and development? 4) Joe Gibbs has obviously left the building if we are making an offer for CJ. 5) No team can afford to pay pro bowl money to THREE recievers. 6) NOBODY is gonna get the ball if we don't have an O-line. COLOSSAL MISTAKE!!!!!!!! |

So TJ is better than CJ, and I didnt know his middle name was "goddam" and yes the Redskins are a long way from being a contender we did go 1-15 last year. Seriously are you making any sense right now?

The guy is a cancer. Period. I wouldn't sign him as a FA, much less give up picks/players for him. TJ is a big possession reciever, as well as a team player, and I'd take him for this WC offense over CJ any day of the week. We are not a playoff team right now, and that's what CJ wants to be on. He's says he's pissed because he's not winning, coming to washington ain't gonna help that anytime soon. |

did we not just make the playoffs last season and twice in the last 3 years and we playin the NFC, TJ is 6'1" 197 and chad is 6'1" 192 so I dont see how Tj is a "big" possession reciever. That playoff statement you make isnt making any sense at all.

Re: Offer made on Chad (1st rd '08, conditional 3rd rd '09)
Either way after reading those articles in my last post I think it's safe to say that our draft picks are pretty safe. Reposting so it doesn't get lost in the thread.
Cincinnati Bengals Prior to his drafting there was a huge effort by the New Orleans Saints head coach Mike Ditka and management to get the Bengals' high draft position so the Saints could get Ricky Williams. The final offer, which was refused by the Bengals management, was for 9 draft picks, several extra in this year as well as many in the next year. Instead of taking the trade, the Bengals stuck with their initial decision to draft Smith, who, while undeniably athletic -- he had also played some professional baseball -- was still largely unproven, having only impressed at the college level for one season. Smith missed large periods of 1999 pre-season training with the Bengals due to contract disputes; many pundits later speculated that his absence from this short training period hurt him immensely in the seasons to come. Despite incredible shows of athleticism in his early games, he failed to grasp the Bengals playbook fully, and never established himself with the team. Throughout the four years he was with the Bengals, he would only start in 17 games, eventually leading to his outright release in the 2002 season. Smith joined other highly drafted Bengals players such as David Klingler, Ki-Jana Carter, and Peter Warrick who as a result of injury, bad work ethic, bad management and coaching decisions, or simply poor performance, failed to live up to the high expectations that came with being selected early in the first round. Such picks are considered a major reason for the Bengals' dismal performances during the 1990s and early 2000s. Also found this: Brown calls Akili over Saints' 9 picks 'a wash' Yet, Brown is still convinced the decision to draft Smith with the third pick and turn down the New Orleans Saints' offer of nine draft choices (first and third through seventh rounds in '99, first-rounders in 2000 and 2001 and a second in 2002) will hold up under the test of time.

I'm sorry you lost me with #1.....How is CJ not the #1 WR on his team? Go to NFL.COM and look up player stats for 2007 and tell me how a #3 ranked WR is not the top WR on his team? and then find the next available Bengal on that roster.....I'll help you out...it's T.J. Houshmandzadeh at #15. and for your info...CJ does compare to Randy Moss who was second on the list. If you look at all the stats they are comparable other then TD's...yes Moss had 23 and CJ had 8, but thats because according to you he had to play with some one who is better then him at #15. Your #2 is stupid. Palmer is not elite! I think you mean his WR's make him look alot better then he really is. At this point I believe Campbell is better then Palmer. #3 I regress to #2. Palmer is an idiot. Campbell is not. I'm sure CJ would not stunt Campbells growth and more then likely would help it grow. #4 I finally agree with you. #5 Your right. the team should not have thought that Moss who was not the #1 on the Jets was #1 status or that Randel El who was not the #1 on his team nor a #2 was worthy of #1 pay. #6 I'm back to disagreeing with you. This just makes it harder for other teams to double up on one WR. It would probably force Moss to be more open which means Moss gets more balls, or Cooley, or Randel El. Now before you go saying then why do we need CJ...its because teams would have to game plan for him and not single out Moss. Also CJ would get the ball when teams start rolling the coverage his way to eliminate him. |
