IMO the face of the franchise has got to be Clinton Portis. He's regarded as the best and most popular player on the team.

I don't think it's one person, but three.
Portis, Cooley, and Campbell. I think they respectively contribute to the team's public imagine in very different, yet almost equal ways. Each brings a different slice of persona to the Redskins as an organization. All three are very visible players, and while Campbell isn't as vocal as Cooley or Portis, clearly the franchise falls or rises with Campbell's fortunes this year. |

I agree. If I didn't know the Redskins very well, I'd think of the name I hear in the news that's most often associated with the Skins; and that's more than likely Dan Snyder. (Now that Gibbs is gone)

During the offseason its Danny, but during the season its Portis.
I'm going to throw a wrench in there and say that this coming year Cooley will be play more of a part in the face of the franchise. With his blog and other activities this offseason I'm starting to hear about him on national news services. Yahoo posts every new blog that he writes on the front page of their NFL tab. Cooley seems as if he's going to play a bigger part as Redskins spokesman this year.

come on the face is Danny Boy hands down...Anyone who knows football knows who Dan Snyder is. Portis is a close second.

I think we would all like to have it as Portis, but it's Snyder. The face of a franchise goes beyond the field. Portis is great, but he's not a top 3 RB, therefore he is not the face.
I don't like that it's Snyder, but it is. Someone mentioned that it's still Gibbs, and I can go with that. Gibbs has the best reputation of any redskin, and that should remain for a while.

Another reason why it's probably Danny is the amount of turnover that we have in our coaching ranks, players and otherwise. It pretty much makes him the only constant as far as the franchise goes.

CP is pretty popular...but I think that Cooley has more potential to have the impact that John Riggins would of had if he were more vocal like Cooley is. Cooley will become more and more popular because he is a likable cat. Plus his blog and writing for Yahoo. What more can you want?

It's Clinton Portis. No doubt. Zorn and Co. basically asked him to play that role in the offseason. Team leader very often equals face of the franchise. And the past few days he's been co-hosting on NFL Network, debuting 4 new characters and talking on the phone with Chad Johnson. I think he's primed for a very big year, and the Redskins and media seem to think so as well.
NFL Video Galleries NFL Video Galleries (Side note: the two not so subtle marijuana references were hilarious- the first one where Clinton aka Elektra aka Mr. Green, was smoking a pipe and said it was okay b/c it came from the earth, and second when he called up Chad who was smoking a "cigar" in his garage and "reflecting." HA!)

I think for anyone living outside DC and not really a Skins fan the face of the team is Snyder. They might have a vague clue who plays QB or some other position but they all know that Snyder owns the team. Like it or not, he's the face of the franchise.

I think an argument can be made that the face of the franchise, particularly to the lay fan, is Sean Taylor.

I voted Dan Snyder. When the media talks about the Redskins, it's obviously Dan Snyder's team. Portis is the most marketable player on the team but when you talk about the Redskins, you can't do so without mentioning Dan Snyder. He is as recognizable as Jerry Jones of the Cowboys and Al Davis of the Raiders.

I just dont see the lay fan accepting a dead player as the face of the franchise. I'm not even certain the lay fan remembers ST's name let alone what team he played for. They remember a player was murdered last season but I suspect they have only a hazy recollection of his name.

Taylor was a pretty well known player, I really doubt that his name has already been forgotten by the common fan.
