Exactly. Why does JLC think he has some right to know what the front office is thinking in regards to personnel decisions? Why would Vinny want other teams to know that the Redskins were thinking about acquiring Taylor, thereby potentially entering into a bidding war or getting slapped with tampering charges? Granted, Vinny could have responded to inquiries with "no comment," but that's tantamount to saying, "I absolutely confirm the validity of these rumors."

Either JLC (1) realizes that front offices' engage in subterfuge, deception, and outright lies; or (2) he is an idiot for believing that Vinny should be absolutely candid with the press. In any event, JLC seems like he has some serious personal beef with this front office. He never wastes an opportunity to blast the team. He might think he is just calling them like he sees them and the rest of us are dumb sheep, but I tend to think he is oftentimes unprofessional insofar as he is letting his personal biases color his perception of front office moves.

It's kinda cool that JLC is not a homer. I think he provides more scrutiny than a homer would, and I can sort through what is BS and what is substantial.

But yeah, it is funny that JLC wrote a blog about this. I thought it was common knowledge that FOs lie to the media.

Good post, I would agree that JLC does behave unreasonably with his incessant bashing of the team.

I don't think we could have been hit with any tampering charges when it comes to Taylor, because tampering would consist of talking to a guy when he's under contract. That's not what Vinny was doing, he wasn't talking to Taylor, he was talking to Parcells about trading for Taylor. Which is perfectly legal in the NFL world.

But tampering notwithstanding, you're right, JLC should know that teams aren't going to be honest about player acquisition. It would be bad business.

I could be wrong, but I thought that tampering encompasses any statements which suggest that a team is interested in a player under contract with another team. I think the rationale for that broad construction of the concept of tampering is that if a player is thinking about holding out unless he is traded, public expressions of interest in trading for that player would only encourage him to hold out. Had Vinny had told the press that the Redskins are trying to trade for Taylor, they would have expressed an interest in acquiring a player under contract with another team.
