Re: The NFL Player That You Were Most Impressed With After Week 1

I'm not hatin' on Kelly or Thomas, I'm not expecting either to contribute right away and that was my mindset heading into the season.

But I tell ya, watching these other rookie receivers having these good days is making me realize not all rookie receivers struggle. DeSean Jackson had an excellent day for Philly and I think he will be an immediate contributor this season, and I was hesitant to praise Eddie Royal coming into the season because he wasn't that impressive to me at Virginia Tech, but damn the kid has looked good in his opening game. It's halftime and he's already 1 yard away from reaching the 100 yard plateau and the kid looks like he has a great rapport with Jay Cutler.

Well put, much better than my negative rant.

If we had drafted Royal or Jackson, could you imagine the backlash here? "Why did we just draft another 5'10" speedster?!!!!"

Royal will work in the Denver system cause Marshall is the go to guy who has size. Royal and even Jackson would not be what we needed. Obviously the FO saw the same issues and took the bigger WR's. Smart move IMO.

Royal's night is even more impressive since Marshall is out on suspension. Royal should get less defensive attention when Marshall returns. I'm less concerned with size than I am with playmaking ability. That said, I hope our big WRs start making plays soon too.

What Ruhskins said. If my above post made it seem like I would prefer Royal or Jackson over Kelly and Thomas, then my mistake. I really do believe that Kelly and Thomas can become good contributors to this team, but it will just take time. Clearly they aren't Jackson or Royal, two guys who have come in and (so far) look like they will be contributing right out the gate.

Time will tell if the moves we made are wrong, but because of the performance of those two rookie wideouts compared to our two rookie wideouts those impatient members of our fanbase have already made their knee-jerk reactions and that's why we see all these typical posts.

If Thomas and Kelly do turn out to be good though, you can pretty much take it to the bank that those same fans will be singing the front offices' praise.

Of course they don't all struggle. Generally speaking it's not an easy position for rookies to come in and make an instant impact though. And just because they had one good game it doesn't mean they will sustain their success all season. It's one game, gotta take it for what it is.

I know some people see these rookie WRs out there making plays and wonder where our guys are, but it's way too early to start worrying if we made the wrong choices. As SS pointed out there were plenty of rookie WRs that didn't make any sort of impact in week 1 so we're certainly not alone.
