Re: The Official Cut Durant Brooks Thread
Great, he landed one inside the 5. He's still got the worst net avg and distance, etc in the league. He's finished.

Re: The Official Cut Durant Brooks Thread
If I'm correct the one inside the 5 was not a very good kick but had a very good bounce. There is no way to really judge the coverage when he is not even giving them a fair chance to get the coverage going down field.

but you have try and not hit a 26 yard punt every third time.

I think Frost got a bit of a bad rap here. I was fine with him as our punter. I feel like he got better as the year went on last year and was especially good in the Bears game. Hester ripped through every team last year and he did zero against us. Frost was a big reason for that. Then we spend a 6th round pick on a new punter which I do think was a waste. Look what we got with Horton in the 7th round! Then from all accounts Frost outperforms in the preseason but we still cut him loose to save some face and back up Vinny's prized draft pick. The whole thing was a mess. Glad it's over. Time to move on... |

Re: The Official Cut Durant Brooks Thread
Frost is currently 26th in the league in net average.
Brooks was a bust, but it's not like we lost a gem in Frost. He's a dime a dozen type of punter. |

I hear ya, but the draft is such a crapshoot especially in the later rounds. You win some, you lose some.

Should we continue to waste time on him instead of bringing in at least a proven consistent punter? No. But I think it's a bit rash to throw a bust sign around his neck so soon. But I don't really care whether or not we release him. Hell he's just a punter, he doesn't make or break games (unless you kick a 26 yard punt...)

Re: The Official Cut Durant Brooks Thread
Did anyone see who Dallas brought in to punt now that McBriar is done for the year? It would be galling if Brooks landed there and FINALLY learned to be consistent. It wouldn't surprise me if he was on their short list since the best performance of his brief Redskins career was the game at Dallas.

Re: The Official Cut Durant Brooks Thread
The new punter was no better than Brooks. Hopefully he'll improve from the performance in the Browns game. I was ready the blame the missed field goal on his hold, but somebody said the snap was high, the holder got it down and in position, but it was just a bad kick.

Re: The Official Cut Durant Brooks Thread
You must not have watched the game. Plackemeier's punts looked a TON better than Brooks'. They had height and distance, two things that Brooks seemed to have left in college. Also, 2 punts inside the 20 and a touchback too. No 26-yard shanks that go out at mid-field. He kicked one 48 yards. His career average is 42.1 yards, a very respectable stat. Brooks' average so far was 39 per.
He may have had a role in that bad FG with his hold, but that was something that Brooks was consistently horrible at. Any improvement will help and I'm sure Plack will get comfortable with the new center he's working with. BIG improvement so far, but then again it was tough to be as bad as Brooks was.
