Re: Portis
I agree.... my point is that it seems like Portis is the only guy immune to the critics.
Everyone seems to think he is the lone bright spot, I disagree. My critique of Portis doesn't encompass just this season, I'm talking about his whole career as a Skin. And I know he has great numbers, something just seems to be missing. but you are right, $20 million guaranteed....he isn't going anywhere. |

As for his whole career as a Skin - you must be referring to 2005 when he literally carried the team into the playoffs on his legs. Something missing? Every opponent that I have heard speak of him calls him one of the most complete backs in the league, compliments him on his ability & toughness, and speaks with almost awe about his vicious blocking. CP is not, has not been and never will be an elusive back. He is power and speed (yes, speed). He has been unable to use his speed much because the line cant create holes that let him get to the second level untouched and, with defenses keying on him, he rarely gets into a true "open field". "Missing something"?? Yes, he is missing Adrian Peterson's line that would give him holes that allow him to get to the second level. He is missing a passing game that will shake the defense loose from keying on him. If his performance has not been the "lone bright spot", it certainly has been a bright spot.

Something that people overlook alot of the time is that Portis can put anybody on their ass when they slide past our broken down line. When a man who stands 5' 11'' and weighs 220 can put 300+lb defensive linemen or linebacker on his back consistantly and also hold the rank of a top rusher in the league - I think he doesn't have to worry much about job security. |

but idk, i still think its the other way around. portis is only as good as his blockers, he can only get as many yards as his O line clears for him. he very seldom makes a move or sheds a tackle to get extra yards. at running back i want a game changer, someone who can take a run make a guy miss and take it to the house. the one bolder part (i know what your saying, portis needs to get to the second level untouched so he has the opportunity to make guys miss/make plays . .cant do that when you have guys on you or if you had to make a move to make a guy miss in the backfield) but there have been times when portis was 1-on-1 with a lb and that lb makes the tackle or portis falls forward. idk, i dont think portis is as great as most and i think what portis gives us in the runningback position could easily be found elsewhere, hell i even think portis might have been holding this team back the past few years. its really the amount of money and how that hog ties our hands that really bugs me he most thoo. go skins!! sorry for the multi posts |

I agree with you.... "holding us back" is a good way to put it. To those who keep pointing out that Portis is such a great blocker (and I agree he is)..... He isn't getting paid $20 mil to pass protect. |

Re: Portis
Unfortunately, the offensive linemen who ARE paid to pass protect don't.
