I was about to ask the same question, because a lot of people have been speculating that teams are looking at him to possibly play the weakside in a 4-3 defense.

I would ask him to bulk up 10 lbs. and put him at the WLB and move Rocky to SLB.

Hmm, thats an interesting idea, but 10lbs wouldnt be enough. He'd really have to bulk up atleast 20lbs and maintain that weight the entire season... i dont think its realistic.

Well, I was comparing Rocky's weight to him. Rocky is listed as 238 lbs, Roy Williams is listed as 221 lbs.

gotcha, he'd need 17lbs to be at rockys weight, and rocky is a bit undersized as it is. Most 4-3 OLBs are above 240. Williams could bulk up maybe 10lbs in the offseason, but he'd lose alot of that weight as the season progressed. I know you were just throwing out an idea, and its certainly intriguing, but it would be a huge gamble for the skins or any team to take - they certainly wouldnt want to invest alot of money in him until they saw how he performed at a new position.

I honestly hope we sign someone like Crowell, bring Washington and Matt Sinclair back, and then pick up a LB in the 3rd round. that should be more than enough to solidify our LB position:

McIntosh, Fletcher, Washginton, Blades, Sinclair, Crowell, and a rookie would make for a pretty deep group.

It just hit me though that Williams is only 28 years old. For some reason I thought he was older than that (i.e. like John Lynch old).

I wouldn't be surprised if the 49ers pick him up, he's from the SF Bay area and the Niners need S help.
