Well, maybe, but maybe he could learn from Bugel. As was mentioned in another thread, Samuels got quite the lift when Bugel trained him. Not to mention, this guy has started 15 or 16 games for the past 6 seasons, not many rookies from the 3rd round will do that this season.

Possibly.. I'm not advocating starting a 3rd rounder at OT, rather seeing what we have in Heyer over 16 games and drafting the 3rd rounder because we need to develop young OL.

I'm not dead but this team is dead to me...but now that McCloughan is here they may have new life!

Jay Gruden = Zorny McSpurrier
Kirk Cousins = Next Grossman

Sorry, misunderstood. I don't know much about this guy, but I think Cleveland's line was decent and this is just the Browns revamping, might give us a lucky break and let us use the draft picks elsewhere. I think Heyer would have to step up big from last year to be considered successful.

Schneed's Salary Cap projection puts the OL hit at 3.5, so we would have to work something out with him to get the deal done. Course we could release Rabach and gain 2.3 but that would mean we HAVE to do something for the Center position.

Like draft Alex Mack?
Samuels
Dockery
Mack
Thomas
Shaffer
Oh yeah.
I could live with that. And JC would probably live a lot longer with that.

That sounds pretty good; however I'm pretty sure if we sign Shaffer, we will go on defensive side and draft LB or DE..

Maybe. But you've got to admit that would be a hell of a line.

Ditto... it's also tempting because we could let Rabach go and save a pile of cash.

... if we sign a legit RT in FA, which I'm thinking the FO will, then trading back to get Mack and a LB is best case scenario. But I still doubt this works. I think we're stuck at 13.

If we got this guy we don't need to only draft on the defense as Mack is projected late or even 2nd round so this gives us the position to trade down get another pick in late 2nd or another 3rd... then we can address more needs... IMO there are three top grade centers...Mack is one , Unger is another ( he is valuable as he has played guard as well) and Wood!
All are 2nd round projected or the very last picks of the first round..

Just something to think about.. I think there is room to upgrade the o-line with youth while we solidify the holes at SLB and DE!

The only question I have is how much do you guy's think it would cost to sign him?

I'll have to wait and see. I do think think the best way to fill the hole with or without Heyer at RT is in FA. If we sign this guy we can still sign O line men and have time to get them up to speed without having a serious decline in production like last year.

I would go for it if there were no cap concerns, but it sounds like this guy is a mixed bag anyway. Why sign a guy that needs help often with a speedy pass rush. Draft a stud that is willing to learn and can play either side if called upon to do so. I mean the frigging Browns released him. They are on hurting unit also!!!!!!

I would think at 29, we could get his best years right now. I understand going young, but if this guy, or someone like him gives us a good insurance policy if our OL draft pick bombs

It would also save us from the gamble of selecting Smith with the 13th overall.

If we address OT then we can open up our options with our first pick. I don't want everyone to have us pegged at RT with our first pick.
