Re: Holt released by Rams

The Rams are in rebuilding mode.
His drop off in play had more to do with all the injuries the Rams had last year.

He is an older guy but he was never a speed burner. Holt is one of the best route runners ever. I think he will have a 80+ catch year next year if he is in the right environment. I hope he doesn't end up in Philly.

This.

He could be and was and has been and probably might be and most likely is still a very good NFL player. Holt would make us much better in the WR department IMO. Our situation is just tricky right now because our second year receivers are fragile in mind and body and heart.

and the offense does suck...what...I think 28th in the league or something?
How's that good?

Holt hasn't missed a game ....EVER...keep that in mind.
He is rock solid and I'm telling you...if the Eagles or Dallas get's him, they are instantly better...we would be too...just because Taylor didn't do well, doesn't mean Holt wouldn't...I bet if you were offered Holt prior to last year yardage drop, you'd be humping his leg....be realistic...there is NO chance either of the Rookies will ever reach Holts level....quite frankly, I doubt Moss will either...and no way ARE even belongs in the same sentance.
Holt is solid...he would make the WR team instantly better...unless you think Thrash is our clutch vet that can train up the rookies....Duh back to you.
Sometimes I'm glad fans aren't GM's because we'd really suck. First off the reason why our offense "sucked" was because our pass pro was awful, it was not the receivers fault. Many people have already said this, you have to give Kelley and Thomas a chance to develope, 1 year is not enough. Don't you realize WR is not a need? What does that tell Thomas and Kelley if we got Holt? You were probably one of those guys that wanted TO in DC. He's 33 and declining it makes no sense to sign him considering he played in the spread O not the WCO. What's up with this love fetish w/ Holt? WE'RE NOT PLAYING FANTASY FOOTBALL DUDE!!! You can't have every big name FA that gets released, you have to be realistic, IT'S NOT GONNA HAPPEN BUDDY!

I don't understand your viewpoint about our young receivers. The NFL isn't kindergarten. If Holt can help us and he's affordable, then the FO should bring him in, even if it slows the young WR's short-term development. The young WR's would simply play less until they improve enough to beat him out. Holt would push them and he could also teach them. That would be a good thing, IMO.

For those that think this was just a cap move:

Torry Holt's release is not surprising given his decline and opens the door for Donnie Avery. - ESPN

Re: Holt released by Rams

Nothing against Holt, whom I admire and believe to have a few big plays left in the tank, but you don't draft receivers with two of your first picks one year and then bring in an aging superstar the next season. That's ridiculous. While we don't know how Kelly and Thomas will turn out as professionals, we made our bed with regard to the receiver position when we drafted them. We are going to have to ride with them, giving them every opportunity to emerge as players this next season.

And I thought Holt was always pretty consistent on wanting to play for Carolina anyway?

Has he lost a step? I don't know that. He played for a very bad team that beat the Skins 19-17. A home game at that. Kelly knees I am not sold on and most likly was a bad pick. Thomas I hope makes it. As for Holt I love to see if he has anything left but we don't have the cash anyway. Dose Pace have anything left? If he did could he move over to RT for a few years?

Re: Holt released by Rams

Deep threat is not what we need. Over the middle and a good rout runner. I love to see him along with Moss and Thomas see what they could do. But not going to happen with RT,DE and LB needs and No Cash left. Don't get me wrong love the off season pick ups but to throw all that money at three players with three other needs left is short sided.

Hopefully that can be Kelly

I hope as well but the luck that both Kelly and Thomas pan out is poor. But that is the hand that we have been dealt so we will see!

Re: Holt released by Rams

In other circumstances, I would love to see Torry Holt in a Redskins uniform, ala Henry Ellard back in the day. Possession veteran who would compliment Moss and ARE very nicely.

However, considering that the Skins have 3 young receivers in Kelly, Thomas, and Davis, along with Moss, ARE, and Cooley, there is simply no room for him. Harrison either.
