If we got this guy we don't need to only draft on the defense as Mack is projected late or even 2nd round so this gives us the position to trade down get another pick in late 2nd or another 3rd... then we can address more needs... IMO there are three top grade centers...Mack is one , Unger is another ( he is valuable as he has played guard as well) and Wood!
All are 2nd round projected or the very last picks of the first round..

Just something to think about.. I think there is room to upgrade the o-line with youth while we solidify the holes at SLB and DE!

Hardly, actually didn't read the article though. But I thought I had heard somewhere last week that they were going to probably cut him with the intention of bringing him back at a lower price.

Not much time for much Insider stuff these days, just a few things here and there, busy time at work.

Lets bring him in and sign him immediately, because we need an DE and outside backer so Bad it ain,t funny unless we sign one of the LB,s om the free agent market, there is some pretty good ones still out there

Yeah, I'd sign him, and take best of available of OT, DE or LB at 13, or try to trade down to late first and pick up a 2nd as well.

If we sign this dude, then this truly has been a bomb free agency IMO. 2 starting linemen, a beast DT and a pro bowl CB. Plus all of our (4) draft picks.

I agree Soup, that would be quite the offseason for the skins. How realistic is it that we actually are able to fit this last piece of the puzzle into our D before the draft even begins?

Let me put it like this, we had the 28th or so scoring offense, would you tell me that you wouldn't take Cooley if we cut him due to salary cap reasons, or if Cooley is too much of a standout, what about Betts, or Samuels?
Well if this guy is an upgrade over Jansen and Heyer then I'm fine with it.

Any implication that we might have a shot at getting him, or just relaying a fact?

I haven't heard any word out of Ashburn, but that might be a good thing when the FO is quiet, because all the FA's we were supposedly linked to (Willis Brown), Cerrato denied it. The reason that makes Shaffer different than those two is that he has more playing experience and he can play solid for a good 2 years. To answer your question, I definetly think we have a shot at getting him, and I think Shaffer would want to play hear (Salisbury, MD) it all comes down to A. If we have enough cap room and B. How much $$ are we willing to pay him.

Who is better Willis or Shaffer? What I read about Shaffer is good and could work out but that cash thing keeps coming up! Here is the thing is he better then a 1st round pick in the draft that we could get? That would leave big holes left at LB and DE. Just too many needs!

sounds reasonable...then the pick can be used on defense

The Browns say they want to bring Shaffer back...but since cutting him they've signed OT Floyd Womack and OT John St. Clair

The Associated Press: Browns sign OL John St. Clair

Have there been any reports of us going after this guy? Usually we're the first name mentioned for a free agent...

I'm constantly checking all of the Redskin sblogs and various rumor mills and haven't heard him linked to us.

I think at this point many teams (i guess us included? ) are waiting to see what happens in the draft, and once the draft shakes out, those in need will start picking up what's left.
