I think the coaches know that Betts doesn't really add much to the offense when he is in there. He can do 2 things, run straight ahead and catch swing passes. He's not a threat on the stretch plays, he can't block anyone and isn't much of a threat to catch the ball anywhere else other than the flats.

He played himself into a nice contract a couple of years ago when Portis was hurt and good for him, but he's just a guy-nothing special.

Re: Mark Sanchez at 13th?

Ladell Betts is going to be 30 this season, Mike Sellers 34, Rock 30 by the end of the season. At some point they're going to need to address depth at the running back position

Wow...in retrospect Ladell really wasted the best years of his career by resigning here. I wonder if he would do that over again. There were rumors that some teams would have signed him as a starter if he hit free agency.

Re: Mark Sanchez at 13th?

My Prediction:

-The Browns trade Edwards to the Giants for a 1st and 3rd round pick.
-The Redskins trade Santana Moss, our 1st round pick, and our third round pick to the Browns for the #5 overall selection.
-The Redskins trade our 2010 first round pick for a 2009 2nd round pick.
-The Redskins trade Jason Campbell to the Jets for their 3rd and 4th Round picks (they don't have a natural 4th rounder - its ours for Kendall, so we're really taking this one back).

The Redskins Select:

1. QB Mark Sanchez, USC
2. OT/OG Duke Robinson, Oklahoma OR G/C Max Unger, Oregon
3. DE Paul Krueger, Oregon
4. CB Greg Toler, St Pauls
5. RB Antoine Smith, Florida State (serious home run threat)
6. LB/WR
7. LB/WR

Ok, i think i had way too much coffee this morning, lol. Seriously, that was all wild speculation and I don't see any of it really happening - except trading with the Browns for Sanchez. I wholeheartedly believe the Skins are zeroing in on Sanchez and will do whatever they can to acquire him - whether they succeed or not remains to be seen.

I know you were just having fun with this but the thought of trading next years #1 for a #2 this years sickens me. Out of everything you said that was the one I found most objectionable.

I agree. Although it's not going to happen and I'm not advocating it, I really like Knowshon Moreno. That guy is going to be good i believe. I still think you can get cheaper guys that perform similar to LB.

I get this feeling that we need to start thinking a little bit in the future for our RB position.

Wow, lot's of coffee, wheeling and dealing. I would not be shocked to see a draft day trade for JC or others. I would be shocked to trade SM, our only proven legit WR. We'd be horrible.

I think our offense desperately needs another RB. I would like to have Johnson from Oregon. Betts is good but the problem is that he presents nothing more then a not as talented version of Portis when he enters the game. When we are spelling Portis we should be putting someone with breakaway speed into the game that will put the defense on it's heels. Basically Betts is a very good backup to portis but he does not offer a change of pace that our offense needs. We have no game breakers other then Moss and when you only have one it's not that hard for a good defense to take it away.

It was horrible. And the WR corp was among the worst 5 in football IMO. Just pitiful. So basically Jason's had little to nothing to work w/ and evidently from this Danny and Vinny can deduce his "real" potential. It's extremely suspicious in the first place our FO/coaches never acknowledged the dismal state of the offensive line. So again i'm starving for some inside information, even a hunch, about how and when the FO came to it's current mindset about our QB situation.
Goat, that is a fine question. To the extent that I have an answer, it is: the FO as a whole has not lost faith in JC. But the eternally impatient, scapegoat-seeking Danny has, at least somewhat. I don't know this, this is just an educated guess on my part.

Thank God you're not the GM. I think you must have put crack instead of sugar in the coffe.

And if that's true then it is the ultimate indictment on Vinny. Vinny does not have the authority or resume to stand up to Snyder and make him listen like Gibbs did. Snyder needs to have a GM or team president with a proven track record that he will listen to and respect. Snyder would not be influencing the decision over the starting QB if Gibbs, Shanahan or Holmgren were running the show. We didn't hear any of this for 4 years under Gibbs now Gibbs is gone for a year and rumors of Snyders influence are starting to creep up again and it's obviously not good if true.

That would be an unmitigated disaster for us. So we're trading our starting QB and top WR, trading our 1st round and 3rd round pick this year, our first round pick next year to essentially get Mark Sanchez, Duke Robinson and Greg Toler? Wow, the league should step in because we'd clearly be self destructing.

Portis really starts to break down when he approaches 300 carries. Stump Mitchell has expressed desire for a change of pace back. There isn't a point drafting a RB if we aren't gonna give him carries, but hopefully Portis' history of being run-down late season combined with Mithcell lobbying for a "scat back" will make a difference.

Betts isn't terrible, but he's not nearly as good as Portis and doesn't bring anything new to the table. He a worse blocker, a worse receiver, and he fumbles more.
