...drafting DE is a tough one for me. Important position for sure but especially w/ LDE it seems our system sort of dictates the performance: quash the run and collapse the pocket. Honestly I don't know if any of the college prospects will quash the run as well as a healthy Daniels/Wynn rotation w/ the exception of Tyson Jackson. Guy is a wall who can just move people. But Orakpo, Ayers etc is def the balls to the walls pass-rush option right? And w/ big Al in the middle now maybe pass-rushing focus is smarter.
Actually Ayers gets talked up more as a run-stuffer than as a pass rusher. However, I think he has the right combination of both size and speed to be good against both run and pass. I like Tyson Jackson too but IMO he is too big to have too much pass rush burst off of the corner. That having been said, I will celebrate with you if we draft Jackson because I think he will be a really good player.

i go back and forth about Orakpo and Ayers. I would love to have Orakpo's pass rush. But I think Ayers fits better in terms of a being wall against the run like we want in our LDE.

This is just Mayock's opinion, of course, but Mayock said Ayers will turn out to be the best defensive player in the draft. Whether or not that is true, Ayers gave Andre Smith fits in the regular season and had a really good Senior Bowl. When I saw him in the Senior Bowl I began to drool.
