The starters aren't that bad (Daniel Cabrera being the exception, he sucks). They have some pretty decent young arms in Lannan, Zimmermann, Martis, and Scott Olsen to a certain extent. The problem with the Nationals is the bullpen. Its by far the worst in Baseball and it doesn't look like its going to get any better. Its too bad because the offense is ranked pretty high in the NL in many categories (AVG, OBP, HRs). If the Nationals had, at the minimum, a mediocre bullpen, they would be playing .500 ball. By adding Strasburg, I think the Nats would have one the brightest young pitching staffs....maybe even the best as far as potential goes. |

He regularly throws 100mph, topping out at 103. His pitches have wicked movement, and he can pull the string with a changeup at least as well as Hamels can. And it's not like he's wild, the guy has a K rate of more than 2 per inning for a reason, he gets the ball over the plate. He'll come right in and light the league up. There's never been more of a sure thing for baseball's #1 pick, at least not in my memory.
