There's nothing wrong with spanking as long as you're not scaring the kid into thinking they're in danger while it's happening. If you're coming at them looking like you're ready to kill them, they'll learn that it's OK to hit out of anger.

You gotta go at it with a cool head so they know you're in control, then they'll at some level recognize you're not reacting angrily, you're thinking clearly and dealing out a punishment with a well-thought-out purpose.

I like to use time outs first on my young'n. Then I go to the spank as a method of last resort.

I spanked my oldest daughter once and she saw how angery I was and I scared the crap out of her and I never had to do that again as she now knew when I meant business.
