Re: Any Golf Players?
Its funny with my game I hit my short irons long and my long irons shorter compared to longer hitters. For example I hit my 9 150 to 155 but my 4 only 200 but I do crank my driver 250 to 280 and sometimes 300 when I'm feeling good standing on the box. My putting is better but it comes and goes. If I start off hitting some putts I'm usually good for the round but if a start off missing stuff it seems the hole gets smaller and smaller as the round goes on.

EDIT: Your post just reminded me to change my loc to Annapolis. I think I might try to play Renditions one day relatively soon. |

Re: Any Golf Players?
For anyone in the Tidewater Area my club is having its annual golf outing on Sept the
11th at Sleepy Hole Golf Course. Its $400.00 a team which includes lunch, dinner, and cold ones all day and we do flight the groupings so everyone has a chance to win (the pro flights after the scores are turned in to him). 100% of the money we raise stay here in our area and goes toward hearing impared children or other causes that we feel can use our help. Get a team together and come out and have some fun for a good cause. If interested just drop me a PM and I'll get the sign up sheet to you. |

Re: Any Golf Players?
Just read through this thread. SS, you've gotten some good advice here.
I used to play so much more than I do now. I've been working a ton this summer (everyday but Sundays), so I've only played a few times this season. My iron play is still solid and my putting is steady, but boy do my driver, 3, and 5 wood suck right now. I've been hitting my 3 iron off the tee. Better to go 220 yards in a straight line than a 300 yard slice. I'm probably a high 90's golfer right now. Ick. About 8 years ago when I was playing at the University of Florida course 2 or 3x a week (back then it was $14 for 18 holes with a student ID), I would break 90 pretty often. Even had an 85 once. Those days are long gone unfortunately. Hey Angry, we still gotta get out and play sometime. Even if it's just a quick 9 at Sligo Creek.

Re: Any Golf Players?
I've played there twice (2 of my fraternity brothers worked there right after college) and it's an awesome course. From what I remember (I played there back in '02), I used just about every club in my bag.

Re: Any Golf Players?
I've been playing for about 15 years now, and I purchased some Wilson Deep Red Fat Shaft irons about 8 years ago. They were about $500 at the time, and considering that I'm still using them, it was a good value. If you're a "middle of the road" kind of guy, I'd look into these -- although golf technology changes quickly, and they could be outdated now.
In general, I'd get steel irons and graphite woods. I don't like graphite irons, because they flex too much and are more delicate -- seen too many graphite irons broken on trees. Also, my graphite woods are stiff graphite. In the end, it comes down to personal preference.

Re: Any Golf Players?
Another tidbit:
Look to buy your gear online -- the savings are ridiculous. I purchased a 450cc Deep Red II graphite driver for $165 (retail $400+). I also purchased a Pelz sand wedge for $65 (retail $120+). Both were brand new, in the wrapping. I also gotta say, the Pelz wedges are awesome. This is about the only club I would recommend hands-down over all others.

Re: Any Golf Players?
If you are new to golf or just getting back into the game then buying golf clubs should go hand to hand with leasons. I good pro should be able to recomend the type of club (I did not say brand) that best fits your swing. The pro will want to sell you some clubs but most all the time they are much higher then the average store or buying on line. No matter what you buy get them fitted so the sole of the club will rest even across the ground. After using my clubs for years I finally had them fitted to my stance and I guessing I picked up 4 to 5 strokes right away.
