I think it's defensible trying to convert a 3rd and 2 from the 3 yard line because he barely needs a positive result to get a fresh set of downs. Betts might actually have gotten to the sticks on the second down run, in which case, the one yard loss simply gives a 2nd and goal at the two.

I think that if you are going to run it twice, you should be able to run it three times, but I guess you have to get the kicker into the game sometime.
