A strong safety, if he can do nothing else, he had better be a sure tackler. In his rookie year the thing that Greg Williams complimented Landry on was the fact that he was a sure tackler. LL's problem, as pointed out by Redskin Warrior, is not an inability to tackle, but his desire to deliver the big hit like ST used to do. Landry just needs to get back to being the guy that got himself drafted and the guy that the whole defense was saying "we are better with him on the field". Whether he is playing SS or FS does not make a difference, he just needs to do the basic things and the big plays will come.
good call. I guess I was pointing out the tackling as a reason for him being a bust, but his lack of playmaking as a justification of him not being suited for FS. Tackling should be able to be fixed, just keep your damn eyes open when you go to hit someone!

Another reason to say goodbye to Portis and Moss is that they are links (symbolic and actual) to the only promising times of the last 5 years. They were part of an overall experiment that fell short of expectations. I think that people still cling to them as potential building blocks when those days have come and gone. We either need to completely rebuild or stick with what has not worked.

You bring up a good point. Do you think they are holding back other players from developing/excelling?

Exactly. Moss is unquestionably the most talented receiver we have. That said, he's also increasingly inconsistent. You look at teams like the Giants who have thrown their young WRs into the fire and it's paid off in terms of development. The young guys can't get better if they don't play, and if Campbell's reads on every play are 1)Moss, 2)Cooley and 3) check it down to Portis, Kelly, Thomas and Davis are never going to be more than what they are right now.

I do think more responsibility should be put on our young receivers. People who have a lot of responsibility put on them either raise their level of effort and put more into the challenge or fall by the wayside. I would like to see what we have. You can only be babied so long. Put it directly on them and let's see what they've got. If nothing else they should learn by their mistakes and become better.

Thomas and Kelly have fallen victum to the same fate as Desmond Howard. He came here when we had Clark, Monk and Sanders, wrong place, wrong time. They come here with Moss Cooley & Randle El, thus their growth has been stunted.

Players that have worn out their usefullness:
Daniels, Wynn, Smoot, Cartwright, Betts & Rabach. There may be more by season's end.
