Re: Sources: Gruden the front runner

I guess I'll just merge the posts I had in the Shanahan Rumors thread about Gruden into one post here.

Well this won't please too many people

"Snyder is seeking is a candidate willing to leave major personnel decisions to Cerrato and the owner. NFL sources close to Gruden said that's not an expected deal breaker."

Gruden with Bruce Allen, heck even just Bruce Allen without Gruden, could have been nice. I'm not sure who the sources are who say Gruden is interested in the Redskins, I'm curious to know who they are. Not saying they're wrong but I've got arguably the best source when it comes to Gruden and in the last few weeks this source has repeatedly said "not interested" But...it's only October.

In the short term, I suppose this isn't awful. In the short term perhaps. I can see Gruden firing up the team and getting them top play lights out for a couple of years. But that will fizzle out rather quickly

It's probably not the most ideal scenario

I think part of why VC would stick around is it's just a matter who you get along with, happens all over the place, and Snyder and VC get along. Another, bigger, part of it is that even though VC has been around for the last decade for the most part it's only been the last two years that he had the final authority that he has now. And I know what you're thinking, if he's going to be patient with Cerrato why not Zorn? I don't know the answer. I do still suspect though that he (Cerrato) sooner than later won't have quite the input he does now. Again, unless someone like Jerry Gray becomes our full time head coach...and that would be a stunner.

Chris Mortenson has speculated that Holmgren as GM and Gruden as head coach will end up somewhere together...but not in DC

I do... Steve Czban (sp) put it perfectly into words today on his radio show. Ill summarize.

Vinny is the only "GM" willing to be Snyder's proxy, Snyder could never relinquish control of the team to any true GM that knows the game. Using Vinny gives the appearance that Danny boy isn't calling the shots. Vinny is obviously a horrible football guy, has no clue how to pick the players or coaches, and he knows this so in order to keep a job, he just lets Snyder pull his strings. Lets face it, Snyder would probably rather sell the team than let someone else have control over football operations.

Thats probably the main reason Marty was one and done...Snyder couldn't handle not having his hands in the cookie jar. And ironically enough that was the one year I thought the Skins were headed in the right direction.

If Vinny goes, what other GM is going to come hear and let Snyder have final say? What coach is going to come hear that isn't allowed to pick their assistants? This franchise is doomed until Snyder puts his ego aside and lets someone who knows what they are doing call the shots.

Agreed. Time for the burgundy revolt!

Thank God for college football.

How long did the Lions keep Matt Millen? Well I guess VS is not that bad.
