Jay Glazer said on sunday that the Raiders were ready for a "fire sale." One thought I had was Robert Gallery. Before everyone calls him a "bust" rememember that he's at least been a starter for most of his career. His salary might be too big, but if he could be had for a 6th rounder, that might be a good deal.

Another name that could come up is Brady Quinn:

With NFL trade deadline approaching, are Cleveland Browns dangling Brady Quinn? An analysis | Cleveland Browns - cleveland.com - - cleveland.com
I would like to see a deal made for Quinn, not giving away the farm, but if Snyder is making moves behind the scenes and his new coach (Gruden?) approves, Quinn's contract is manageable. He's been in an awful situation in Cleveland. He appeared to have the tools coming out of the NCAA and definitely had a great college QB coach in Weis.

We're not going anywhere this season. Now is the time to find out what we have as far as young players go to build around for 2010 & beyond.

I've had the Quinn thought as well but to be honest w/ you i haven't seen much of his games in Cleveland. I watched one last year where he was ok. I did watch a good amount of his games at ND and he was impressive to say the least. Cleveland will make anyone look bad. They probably say the same about us. He's got to have a hefty salary though.

Based on the article on him, he'll miss his $ 11M accelerator and his contract will only be about $ 2M / yr. Definitely manageable.

Edwards sure looked better and happy to be out of Cleveland. Maybe a change of scenery does Quinn good.

I agree, but can he survive our dysfunctional franchise?

If it's Chucky, he's sold on Quinn, and approved the trade, yes. If the HC is Holmgren, yes.

Current coaching structure......is there a smiley for a gun to the head? LOL

I wonder what we could get for Portis?

We shouldn't settle cheap for him. But maybe we could get a decent draft pick or two for future building.

I totally agree we are not going any where this season but do we want to give away more draft picks for a QB that has not showed much promise? If Zorn is gone then I want the new HC to pick the QB he wants to start in his system.
