Not trying to be a jerk but did you not get your mortgage free home when your mother in law passed? That puts you way ahead of the game.

We did, we were able to sell our house and pay off our mortgage and obviously we're incredibly fortunate because of that. Believe me we'd give it all up in a heartbeat to have her back, but yes it put us way ahead of the game, obviously the circumstances that put us in this situation just stinks.

I agree I would not trade any of my family members for a mortgage free home. So you still paid for your house just at a much higher price.Again, sorry for your lost.

Indeed we are fortunate due to some very unfortunate circumstances. Beyond this though I firmly believe (although I'll never be able to prove it) that we were headed in the right direction. My dad was a cop, and built his wealth based on good old fashioned savings etc. Both me and Matty are well educated and have saved for retirement as soon as we could. After college we both paid off our credit card debt, and began saving. We did not buy an expensive house, but one we could reasonably afford. I can't deny we had an advantage, but that was exactly was my parentswanted for me and planned for themselves. Thanks to that, I'll be able to do the same for my own kids.

Are you serious? This dude got his parents house after they passed away and he is seriously bragging about how much he saves? No wonder, I wish I got a nice free handout like that, shame on him for being a braggart! Cant stand people all high and mighty bragging when they have a huge bone like this tossed to them. I have a mortgage, have had one for 15 years now and am still paying on my damn student loan! I do not have any credit card debt and my car is nothing flashy but its paid for - yet I still have times when its a paycheck to paycheck month. I am able to contribute only 5% into my 401K but my hospital doest not match a dime. Im not whining or complaining, I do love to travel and love going to Vegas. Life is too short to plan on living when you are old and retired. I work in the healthcare industry and I see what the golden years look like. Its golden pee stained! Live your life along the way, enjoy the ride but at the time try to be somewhat responsible.

This is a colossal fail on my part. I should have not posted what I did. Matty has never acted like that, I beleive even his wife wrote in this thread how it was a blessing from a tradgey.

No worries, it was not taken that way. When my mom died, I had alot of guilt about what I inherited. In fact it caused some serious family problems, even though I am an only child and my mother had a will.

I have recently begun to get over this. Other people will always have their issues and its just that- their issues. I can't help the position I'm in and you know what, I'm not going to apologize for it either.

Like I said before, my parents worked hard for this so that they could enjoy it, and eventually me. Well eventually is here sooner then any of us wanted. All I can do is follow in thier footsteps and that is exactly what I plan to do.

If your the only child no one had any business getting mad over what your Mom left you and you should feel no guilt. Your Mom cared about you thats why she took the time to get a will and alot of people never bother to do that. Parents work hard for what they have and I think most want to leave something behind for their children. My parents have a home on the water and a cottage at the beach in NC. My parents sat down with me and my sister and we talked about the subject. I wanted the house and she wanted the cottage. She wanted a few things out of the house like a few peices of furniture passed down through the family we agreed on those things. My parents then had the will done and I hope its a longf time before we ever have to read that thing but they feel better its done.

Your a first rate ass hole. The guy was not bragging, people where talking about their spending/saving. He even said he would perfer to have his mother-in-law back over having the house. Not all guys would say that. I'm guessing your job at the hosital is dumping bed pans and that explains alot of your anger issues.
