I feel the same way. It was almost magic how the ball floated in the air for Meacham (on the INT-fumble).

Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Saints)

^^^ yeah the point florio is making has always struck almost everyone as odd. we benefited from this "keep playing after the whistle" rule a few times this year, got brunt by it yesterday.

it just makes no sense to have this rule in which players are supposed to ignore the whistle. so many times a season we see this potential fumble whistled down by contact, 23 players are standing around looking confused and 1 player picks the ball up and runs it all the way to the endzone with no one chasing him.

why have such an important play like a turnover be determined after a whistle blows a play dead? if im a coach, i would tell my players to disregard every whistle when it comes to down by contact plays when it comes to any loose ball that slips out.

take the ARE catch where he was tackled hard, ball came loose then ARE was lying on the ground in pain. the play was close so why couldnt a D player come flying in and blast ARE while hes on the ground and recover the ball? the ref whistled the ball dead and was pointing that ARE was down by contact, but arent players supposed to ignore this whistle? i mean, the ball came loose very quickly?

this rule makes no sense in how rules are defined. this is really a rule against the rules.

The Saints did have 3 defensive backs out for the game but yes DT had an awesome performance. You could see his confidence building every play he made. I'm very excited for his future here.

Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Saints)

Listening to Doc Walker a minute ago. He says "for the first time this year, we have a team!" "A TEAM.........They look like they just came out of Carlisle"
He's right. The mix of guys we have on the field Don't think they suck. They apparently did not buy in to unbeatable New Orleans.
I hope this stuff is not lost on the coaching staff and FO. Some of these guys have earned the right to be there and some of our long term vets may have been served notice.

I guess you could go back to the sloppy field conditions maybe and see that Haynesworth just rolled on his ankle funny. Still, that was a knock on him in Tennessee. Not that he fakes being hurt but that he's not as "tough" as he should be. Worst part about that was forcing us to take a timeout and stop the clock.

exactly the saints had about 3 minutes there to come up with a game plan for the drive rather than having the time continue to run, if he was good enough to come back in and play later he should have been able to scurry off the feild

Man stop the Haynesworth hate, that dude balls throughout the game. Yeah it sucked that he went down, and yeah the first play back he just stood, but the next play he bullrushed the OL guy, so a bit of that "taking a play off" plays to setting up the OL guy. I've seen him chase across the line of scrimmage, and on the 4th and 1 play he was 2 yards deep penetrating to stop them. This falls under the "least of worries" category

with us losing games late i think it's a bit of concern, and we need him out there instead of takin a break.

don't get me worng he is a beast when he is on the field. the only problem is he is winded or "hurt" when we need him most.

which is another thing that comes back to coaching imo.

what is so unbelievable about him being winded/hurt being a direct result of our coaching discipline or lack there of?

The man weighs 300ish pounds, he goes from standstill to benchpressing one or two equal forces pushing against him. Every D-lineman gets winded and many get hurt. It's a ridiculous (in my opinion) assertion that a man who plays balls to the wall when he is in is suddenly an undisciplined behemoth because of our coaching scheme. as SS remarked, this is the way he has always played. Here, Tennessee. He is a force for 60-70% of the Defensive snaps, thats what he does. and we knew coming in that he would miss a game or two. That's who he is. Nothing I have seen from him has been different than what we were shown in the past two seasons, and it is well worth the pay to bring someone in on DLine that instantly improves every other DLine player.

But some people think these guys are robots, who by some miracle conditioning program don't tire or get hurt. That is what is so unbelievable. I weigh 215 (on a good day) when I rough and tumble with my sons, or even with my brother I get worn out quickly enough, let alone if it was pure brutality like it is in those trenches.

So it's Haynesworth fault the secondary sucks?

no i didn't say anything to that effect, when his is out there he makes our secondary look good because of the rush he creats if anything

my point is that he is not out there on a lot of clutch plays and i feel that is the result of coaching staff being soft, and trying to be too buddy buddy

which i feel is also relevant in many other areas of the team

Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Saints)

I really like having Big Al in the middle as he MAKES a big difference on the D line, but I hate hearing that stuff. I would love to get a GM and coach in here that could jerk a knot in some of these guys.........
