Redskins hiring Allen first move towards Shanahan?
I continue to hear from multiple league sources that Mike Shanahan remains the most likely choice to take over as the Washington Redskins’ head coach in 2010, and the hiring of Bruce Allen is but one move in an organizational overhaul...

...The Redskins will explore candidates to round out the front office in player-personnel roles, according to sources, with current personnel executives such as Eric DeCosta (Baltimore), Bobby DePaul (Chicago) and Doug Williams (Tampa Bay) among possibilities. The Redskins came close to hiring DePaul to replace Cerrato twice during the Gibbs regime, according to sources, and DeCosta, a rising star as Ozzie Newsome’s top lieutenant with the Ravens, began his career with the Redskins. Williams won a Super Bowl as the Redskins’ quarterback and worked under Allen for the Buccaneers in personnel.

Snyder also has been impressed with the work of Morocco Brown, in his first season as Washington’s director of pro personnel, and he could be someone to remain in a revamped front office...

...Many will look at Allen’s hiring as a sign that Gruden could reunite with him in Washington, but multiple sources continue to tell me that Gruden will not coach until at least the 2011 season and is loving his job as an analyst on Monday Night Football. He signed an extension with ESPN, which I am told is ironclad for 2010 in terms of leaving, even for a coaching or “dream job” gig.

“There is a zero percent chance that Jon coaches anywhere next year,” said a source close to the coach...

...Snyder thinks highly of several member of the staff, including defensive coordinator Greg Blache, who has seriously considered retirement in recent years, and secondary coach Jerry Gray, who was viewed as a possible successor to Blache (Snyder blocked Gray from interviewing to be the Houston Texans’ defensive coordinator during the offseason)...

...Allen’s hiring is a strong first step, but there is much more to come as the Redskins try once again to reclaim their glory and emerge from a long malaise.
My main gripe with the hiring of Allen has been his complete lack of accumen in the personnel department and history as being nothing more than a yes-man in personnel-issues. In light of this report, Allen may not be too involved in those issues after all. This would seem to make sense, in light of his and Snyders cryptic comments on the issue during the press conference today.

If JLC's sources are correct and hiring Allen is just the first step, and we bring in DeCosta to handle personnel matters, hire Shanahan to coach the team and run the offense, and retain Jerry Gray as DC, I will do a backflip. There's not much more Snyder could to make me happy.

honestly i really don't think any changes need to be made in the coaching staff. i know i'm probably in the minority but bringing in yet another coach means more change and possibly more set backs. make lewis the oc and let him call the plays and let zorn keep game planning and working with jc and i think we're on our way. i'd keep blache if he wants to stay, if not then hire grey as dc and let's keep things stable.

Wouldn't it be interesting to see Gregg Williams get the job? Assuming he could forgive Dan, at the very least it was no secret that Cerrato didn't get along with GW. I still don't know who to put my money on, but this is definitely a glorious day. At the very least we will probably see our two first round picks go towards the O-Line given Allens history. He truly is the anti-Cerrato.

So basically you absolutly believe the Cerrato propaganda about Zorn game planning and all Sherm Lewis is doing is calling the plays to JC? You still can't be that nieve? Zorn had no clue as to what was wrong with the team, he had no clue as to how to fix it other then to say his system is not the problem and that it was all about execution. The team goes out and picks up a retired OC and he comes in and everything starts looking better. Even B-Bitch said we actually look like we are finally running a WCO. Sherm Lewis fixed this problem. Sherm Lewis did what Zorn could not do with a whole healthy team. Plus it's not all about the offense gelling...Levi Jones recently came in, Dockery is new this year, the RG is new and Heyer. Basically the OL has had 2-3 weeks tops to gel. Sherm Lewis did more for this club then Zorn, everything from the game plan to the play calls. You want proof? Zorn was in control during the last 2 min. of each quarter. He also handled the Redzone. Both are areas that were bad even after Sherm Lewis came to the Skins. I'm believing they took that away from Zorn cause we actually have been better and have started scoring more. Plus clock management has gotten better.

So please everyone stop with the "I hope we keep Zorn cause he has figured this thing out" and "Zorn deserves more time" ....to what? continue to be mediocre?

If you want to keep Sherm Lewis to help out the new HC then it might work out but Zorn has to go. He sucks.

Yea if we cannot get Gruden than we should keep our Coaching Staff in place for at least 1 more season.

From what I understand, Lewis has said he does not want to stay beyond this year. I think he said that even before all of this

Yep you are 100% right. Lewis made that well known when he was hired this year. Maybe a shame though, because the offense is suddenly clicking so well.
