Offensive tackle Tony Pashos set to visit Redskins today

Chad Clifton apparently isn't the only offensive tackle who will be visiting Redskins Park today. Tony Pashos, an unrestricted free agent from San Francisco, is scheduled for a visit in Washington, according to Aaron Wilson of the NationalFootballPost.com.

Pashos, who stands 6-foot-6 and weighs 326 pounds, played under Washington offensive line coach Chris Foerster in both San Francisco and Baltimore. He also played two seasons in Jacksonville.

In recent weeks, it seemed the 49ers were getting close to working out a deal that would keep Pashos in San Francisco. That might not be the case, though.

Pashos, 29, and Foerster are believed to have a close relationship and San Francisco coach Mike Singletary was asked during the NFL Scouting Combine whether Foerster's departure would make it tougher for the 49ers to keep Pashos.

"I don't think so. I talked with Tony. I think Tony had some familiarity with Chris Foerster. But I talked with Tony, and Tony feels comfortable about what we're doing," Singletary said. "He feels good about what we're doing in San Francisco. Certainly, they had a
good relationship, but hopefully things work out where Tony is back with us. But I know he feels good about what we're doing. . . .Hopefully, it works itself out. But once again it has to work for both sides and hopefully it gets done."

The fact that the Redskins have at least two tackles stopping by today should not be read as a free agency competition between Clifton and Pashos, however. The team could sign both and start next season with new faces playing both left and right tackle.

Excellent news, the Redskins seemed to have fooled everyone. We're actually addressing needs instead of wants. What a difference a real GM makes.

This is about 8 months too late (thanks, Vinny). Still it is a good move.

As far as some comments above go, we need a total OL makeover in terms of both starters and depth. So I can see us signing 3-4 free agents on the OL and still drafting as many as three guys.
