It is still so early in the offseason. There is a good chance Larry Johnson will not even make our final roster. This draft is deep in the RB position. Even if we draft only one RB, there will be some undrafted rookies that will get signed. Plus there is the final camp cuts from other teams that always has a talented RB or two.
I would bet there is a better chance that Portis doesn't make the final roster.

Johnson knows this may be his last stop. Portis thinks he is the guy who just left the U.

Agreed. He probably won't even be the starter.

Good to see you aren't holding a grudge against the guy.

So you are pulling for our #2 runningback to get injured? Too bad we don't have more fans like you.

Sorry, this move officially effin sucks. There are much better/younger options, especially if ppl think shanny can turn any RB he touches to gold. This might be his biggest project/challenge to date.

I really love how people make ridiculous claims like "there are a lot of better younger options than Larry Johnson" (like this guy is a nobody in the league) but can't name a single one.

It is easy to second guess every move and never offer a solution.

Big IF!

And IF his fists stay away from any woman.

Right now the move seems very questionable.

And apparently he went out and ran for two consecutive 1700+ yard seasons. Highly doubtful his rookie injury has affected him since then.

Re: Redskins Sign Larry Johnson

Reading is a Good Thing People!

Ok, for the whiners and complainers out there, we got LJ basically for nothing. The base salary for the 3 years is 3.5 million, I think the guaranteed money is 1.5 mil? The 12 million comes from incentives and whatnot

I'm starting to believe that BA knows how to work out contracts. While I wanted Willie Parker, being only a season removed from being the #1 guy on a good team, I'm sure WP would have wanted a heck of a lot more money. LT left SD because of money, and that's what he's looking for. Also, I'm sure these two guys may be looking to be the feature back wherever they land.

As far as LJ's off the field issues, well this is where I trust Shanahan as a disciplinarian. (And Lord knows we need one on this team). But I also see this as LJ's 2nd chance to show that he's not done or that his off the field issues are a thing of the past.

I am glad we are heading towards a multiple RB system. A lot of the successful teams are doing this, and I'm glad we seem to be headed that way. And for the young/hungry player fans out there, I'm sure we're drafting a RB in April. Hopefully we'll land our next Shonn Green or Tashard Choice.

Who are these better younger options? And who said he needs to be our back of the future? He could very well have been signed just to be a backup. Its only March...other RB's will be drafted or signed.

I hope we draft a back. Larry probably still has some juice in the tank, but we should have maybe waited to see if a younger FA RB would have been available.

I listed their respective career numbers on pg. 4. The columns are slightly off, but Portis and LT are waaaay ahead of LJ in every category. Games, number of carries, yards, TDs, you name it.

This was a good signing if you ask me.

If that happens, what would prevent us from signing them too?

Re: Redskins Sign Larry Johnson

I doubt Portis is going anywhere. Why sign two FA running backs if you are going to draft someone? I mean Larry is a monster when he is on top of his game, but he is a short termer for sure. I only wonder if he is only going to be used for short yardage situations or is he actually going to split carries with Clinton. I guess it all comes down to what their plans are for Portis. I was hoping they would draft a kid and groom him to eventually take over for Portis. But you are right they could sign another FA if need be. Was Portis the only RB spared from the cuts?

Re: Redskins Sign Larry Johnson

That's a lot of ink on that backfield!!

I didn't know LJ's father played for the Redskins back in 1974. I remember after he signed with Cincy last year (after being cut by KC) he was interviewed by Dan Patrick on his show and I was very impressed with him, he was very articulate and seemed very bright. Hard to believe after all the shit he pulled in KC. Maybe he has matured and will surprise us fans.

Both of these backs in a split role could be a very good duo imo, lets see how it plays out.
