It's hard to argue with your logic, but to answer your question, I believe that people are clamoring for "change". Change in culture around the locker room and on the field. I think a lot of people see a change in personnel as a way to achieve this, and trading players for draft picks specifically. In that instance the only players of value towards a trade are the ones who have performed well for us, i.e. trade worthy.
