Re: Redskins Release 5

Not totally surprised with Mitchell getting released, but after the minicamp? Not sure why folks got all excited about the kid? He had a decent preseason, but was up against 2nd-3rd string defenses most of the time. Plus he came from Nevada, a pistol offense heavy on the run. The move also tells me we got the vet WRs to compete to play and not just to light a fire under the newbies' butts. Don't be surprised if Shanny releases another newbie later on when the roster has to hit 53. I hope Mitchell actually pursued a real degree at Nevada and not the typical basketweaving ones like Phys Ed or a general Communications degree. It is a 50/50 chance somebody is going to pick him up. Getting released at minicamp isn't very good.

This is a ridiculous reason. Ever heard of demaryius thomas? He's a WR from Georgia Tech thats EXTREMELY run heavy yet he was a 1st round pick. So his college scheme really has nothing to do with it now. Apparently, Marko just didnt show enough polish during the minicamp as far as running routes and picking up the playbook. With Shanahan wanting to "win now", you cant go into the season with 4 outta 5 receivers "developing." There has to be SOME establishment out there.

That was just an add on. Thing was he was drafted real low also, so obviously folks didn't think he was hot. And yes a system(school you go to also) can have an influence on if one is drafted or not. IF you are above average in talent, but are in a system that you really can't showcase your ability, that does hinder your NFL draft status. The only Wrs that can buck this trend are the ones with exceptional talent, cream of the crop. You gave me Demaryius Thomas as an example of WR from a run heavy system at Ga Tech, but that guy was from a big school and is definitely very gifted. My uncle coached Chris Carter at Ohio State in a balanced attack, but that guy was phenomenal, and of course was a first rounder.

I'm a Phys Ed/Health major at Longwood University I wouldn't call it a basketweaving major. At my school it is actually one of the harder education programs to get out of and requires a higher GPA to stay in the program then our Business school and requires the 2nd most credits to graduate out of the entire university. Don't hate on PE

Or Gym class....I can remember my PE teachers always saying "Gym (Jim) there is no Gym (Jim) here"

I don't know who is more uptight about their jobs dentist or PE teachers. God forbid you don't refer to a dentist as a Doctor.

Haha it's true my professors go nuts if you call it "gym" class. It's a lot harder now than it used to be to get through it but it also depends on where you go to school as well. I transferred to Longwoods PE department and realized quick it was no joke. It's not surprising at all to see people not graduate on time haha like me

Not hating, but when my uncle was the HC of Ohio St football in the 80's, by far the most popular majors were PE and Communications. UNless you get into some really specialized subset of the two, it might really be hard getting a job nowadays. Probably was back then also.

I've always wondered about this. Is your uncle the reason behind your Gus Frerotte love?

Yea PE back then was most likely a joke, and I thought the same thing going into it. I just wanted to coach and have summers off. But now it's like damn I'm working my ass off just to get by classes. Couldn't believe it when I'm sweating over anatomy classes, exercies physiology classes and bio mechanics. All these just to teach gym haha. I was a assistant at my old college on the basketball team and I'd love to see those guys pass some of my Phys Ed classes haha. Times are definetely changing

A general business degree is pretty mellow too though. Not taking away from what you're doing at all though; I had several friends go to Longwood for teaching.
