It isn't a high-risk spot and it seems like it would be an advantage to be able to have your starting QB or one of your speedy WRs/RBs at the spot. Maybe it is a logistical deal with being able to get enough practice to gel?

Coaches always claim that it's all about practice time. That's why we don't see that many QBs as holders anymore. They say that punters only practice punting, so they have a lot of spare time to practice holding as well. If they were to use a player who plays something other than P, they would have to practice extra or take away from their position practices.
