Re: The Official Defense Has Major Issues/Fire Jim Haslett Thread

We do not have the personnel for this D, that seems pretty clear. But the die has been cast: we are going this way, come hell or high water, so it seems. We're going to have to get used to being weak on D this year, and then we'll see what the draft and offseason bring. My guess is we'll get better as players get used to the system and coaches figure out the least bad group to get out there. But we're in transition and it ain't going to be pretty for a while.

Stick with the plan and build through the draft. And don't start firing people at week 3--that's been our problem (or at least thinking that way has been). We were 4-12 last year. You can't change that overnight.

Best post Ive read in awhile. But damn its frustrating to see a defense which has been decent/good for years just go to sh*t so quickly. But your right, our personal is not even close for the scheme.

Well we've given away picks for McNabb, Jammal Brown, and I think Carriker. To me it seems that MS had a "win-now" attitude instead of rebuilding. I don't mind a "win-now" attitude, but I don't understand how you are going to win when you switch to a new defensive scheme that doesn't fit our personnel.

It is too early to talk about firing Haslett. That said, our defense sure has taken a great step down. The dominant image of our defense this year is an informal huddle of defensive backs who are trying to sort out who should have covered whom after a play. It has happened again and again.

it just doesn't make sense, i have been saying the same thing for weeks, you can't claim this team is re-tooling and going with a win now attitude, when you change the enitre defesive scheme. our d has been in the top ten for years and our offense has lost us games. now we have an offense that appears at first clance to be at a minimum effective, and a defense that can't stop a rookie qb without his pro bowl rb
