Re: The Official Defense Has Major Issues/Fire Jim Haslett Thread
Carter is definitely not a fit for the 3-4 and did anybody else notice how the guards got downhill and were able to get to Fletcher before he could make a play to stop the run? I noticed on several running plays that the guards were quick to get downhill and either chip or block him enough that he couldn't get to the running back.
I probably shouldn't have put the "fire Jim Haslett" part in the title because I'm not on that bandwagon but I figured enough people are already pissed at him that I might as well. My whole point, and the point that several people have already made, is that why does Shanahan say we are trying to win now when we know it's gonna take multiple years to transition to a decent 3-4? Going into the season I had my doubts that we could take last year's 4-3 starters and transition them into 3-4 roles and it looks like that's a big part of the problem now.
So do we just have to sit back and accept that we won't be trying for the division title and that it's going to take multiple years to transition to an effective 3-4, or what? What we've seen so far is an attacking defense that everybody and their mothers' know how to counter, but we haven't seen Haslett adjust to the offenses' adjustments. Either way something needs to be done.
