NFL Might Suspend Players for Violent Hits
What's the world coming to? Sooner or later, the NFL will be more waterd down than water polo.

Re: NFL Might Suspend Players for Violent Hits
Yeah we all love big hits but the NFL doesn't. I think guys are going to have to do shoulder to shoulder/chest hits now, and they're going to have to change their approach. The NFL is recognizing it needs to do more than fine players, so suspensions are the next logical step.
I just don't want to see any players go shoulder to shoulder/chest, and get fined/suspended/flagged for it if the official thought it looked helmet to helmet. I don't trust the refs enough to be able to tell in a moments notice whether it was helmet to helmet or not. |

Fines obviously don't work, so they have to do something else.

Yeah, you don't mess with Peyton's boy, Dallas Clark.
They already fined Jarmon as well, and that was ticky tack.

Re: NFL Might Suspend Players for Violent Hits
The problem is some of the hits are legal. The refs are so flag happy that when ever they see a big hit they throw the flag. Suspensions is not the way to go unless there is intent and none of these hits have intent. Jackson's hit was perfectly legal yet it drew a PF.

Obviously, but soon, even the least severe-looking of hits will not fly by if it's one of the NFL's poster boys suffering. It's all about the money. No one gave a flying shit when Juqua Parker slammed Campbell unconscious.

Re: NFL Might Suspend Players for Violent Hits
Well it's obvious why players go for kill shots. It gets your team riled up, it increases your chances of forcing a fumble, but it also definitely increases the guys chances of getting a concussion, and that's why the NFL wants to stop it.
Face it guys, this isn't your father's NFL, and we're just gonna have to live with that. |

Re: NFL Might Suspend Players for Violent Hits
Yeah, no doubt about it. I like seeing the big hit that riles up the team every once in a while, but if we saw more forced fumbles resulting from a guy wrapping the ballcarrier up and sticking his hand in there and jarring the ball loose I definitely won't miss the big hit.

Re: NFL Might Suspend Players for Violent Hits
Jarmon definitely dropped his head to make helmet to helmet contact with Aaron Rodgers, while Landry's play on Clark was perfectly legal. If a DB can't drive a receiver into the ground while making a tackle, then Goodell may as well replace tackling with flag football.

Did you hear Rodney Harrison yesterday? He said he'd put aside 50k each year for fine money because he wasn't going to stop hitting people since that was his reputation

Re: NFL Might Suspend Players for Violent Hits
Yeah heard him say that, crazy. The one thing that got him was getting suspended.
