Re: Merged: The Movies Thread

saw the movie The Lovely Bones last night on HBO. i didnt have high hopes for it to begin with after reading the info on it but it was chance to turn the lights down low and cuddle up.

I wont ruin it for you with specific outlining.

Well dont see it. It started off ok and with some promise but man, the last 45 mins it had some of the studipest most random events that circumvent any type of consistency or foreshadowing or quality storytelling.

These random events that come out of nowhere with no foundation or foreshadowing greatly effect the overall storyline. piss poor writing.

why spend time developing a storyline then to just have the main character die from swerving his car to avoid a random squirrell that runs into the street? this didnt happen, just an example.

I watched The Lovely Bones the other night as well. I can't say I agree with you, I mean I wasn't in shock and awe about it either and it definitely had its' moments where I was like, this isn't really that interesting or compelling, but without giving too much away I think the storyline wasn't about revenge so much as it was saying everybody will get theirs at one time or another so it doesn't do much good to keep dwelling on it.

Also finally saw American Me in its' entireity last night. I've watched parts before but never the whole thing. What an awesome movie. I don't want to give away anything but since it came out in '92 I'm fairly certain most people here won't be too mad about me giving anything away since it came out 18 years ago. So don't read from this point on if you don't want to know what happens.

The whole storyline about the guys starting the gang wayyy back in the day as a means to protect themselves, and then at the end when they kill their leader for being too soft, I think it really highlights how gangs have evolved in this country. And nobody talks about this but look at how gangs destroy families. I wouldn't be suprised if gangs have told members who have family that they have to choose between killing a family member or betraying their gang and that some people have chosen to kill family members just to stay in the gang.

you are def right that the movie was about letting go and letting karma or life work itself out naturally. i guess i found that part ot be underwhelming and satisfying

still, the last 45 mins or so had my saying wtf.
