There is actually a transmission recharge kit that we put in the old transmissions when the fluid is changed in old units. What it does is put a coating back on the friction plates after fresh fluid goes in. This is why old transmissions fail in older mainly pre 2000 year vehicles. The fresh fluid washes off all the friction material on the plates, and they slip and fail. most modern transmissions are essentially computer controlled manuals, and they handle fluid changes just fine...
