How should the team have addressed the FS spot in your opinion? or are you saying that you are good with Doughty/Moore until a high draft pick could be used for the position.

IMO go get a guy in the later rounds. Find a diamond in the rough. Coach up Moore and get him healthy. That's how I'd address it. Chasing a 30 year old safety when you're not contending for a Super Bowl makes 0 sense.

IDK about that man, sometimes it's not JUST about getting to a SB first.. You have to make a division run first.. Bottom Line is The guy will help our defense improve.

I just don't agree with signing a 30 year old safety on a bad team. OJ is not the long term solution IMO. But he's an upgrade so it is what it is.

So we are not to sign any players near 30? Yes, in a perfect world you want a young team. But the world is not perfect and no team is perfect in selecting players. Fielding some veterans mixed in with youth is not a bad thing. In fact the veterans provide leadership and teach the young guys how to play in the NFL. A larger percentage of college football players are NOT ready to play in the NFL. That is real. You talk about finding a diamond n the rough in the later rounds. That is easier said then done. If it were easy you would be a GM in the NFL.

you are talking about the safety position like it's a rb, it's not. i know it's hard to beleive but the redskins might have actually, wait for it, made a logical decision based on need and budget during free agency. i just hope to see alot more of this and less of the bs. the only thing i don't like about this trade is that it didn't happen last year, i still don't understand what happened last year, but hopefully we are on track now.

You answered your own question. Last year it would have been a trade for Atogwe. This year it wasn't

Can't sign perfect fits all in one year. This doesn't keep us from improving the position over the next few seasons.

I don't think anyone or the FO is suggesting that Atogwe is a long term solution.

We need a stop-gap solution and the best FS out there is Atogwe. Sanders is too injury prone. Finding a gem in the rough is not going to happen; Moore, Horton and Doughty did not provide enough to resolve our dilemma at FS or SS.

A late round safety like Doughty, Horton, Moore...

Sure, if we traded picks to get him, this doesn't make sense. But since all it cost was Synder's money, who cares?? We unloaded a lot of contracts so I think we're looking good for the salary cap.

Atogwe is a good move because:
1) Free agent, didn't cost picks.
2) Seems like a good locker-room guy.
3) Good veteran who can help K.Moore/young secondary.
4) Makes our D more competitive & fun to watch.

Seeing #21 in the highlights was hard to watch. To think what could have been - at least this year we'll see a glimpse of good safety play again.
