If I gave you a $1 million or $2 million right now we would all call you rich. However if I told you "alright make that last for the rest of your life" you might view it differently.

I mean put it this way. Joe Nammath was among the richest men in sports when the Jets gave him a $400,000 contract in 1965 and at the time was viewed as overpaid. If that was the only money he ever made and he retired with that as his nest egg then it would have averaged out as $6,000 per year, assuming you don't include a 1% savings account.

Remember 78% of these guys go bankrupt two years after they leave the league, and not all of them are going out and buying $50,000 bottles of champaign.
