Re: Merged: The Movies Thread

This is probably the nuttiest flick I've seen this year. Lucky McKee is keeping the American horror genre in the game.

JAck Ketchum is a very very strange writer. Watch/read The Girl Next Door, the guy is twisted with what comes out of his mind. He makes Stephen King look like Walt Disney.

I've seen Girl Next Door... I think it was based on a true case, which is very scary. Ellen Page also starred in another version called "An American Crime." And yeah, Ketchum is pretty nutty... I think his mentor was mentored by Lovecraft, so that may explain the wackiness.

I just copped "The Offspring" which is supposed to be part of a trilogy that ends with "The Woman." McKee also made a really good flick with Bettis (the wife in The Woman) called "May."

I watched it the other night...what an awesome horror movie...it was disturbing and the end was shocking. I was kinda laughing at certain scenes in the movie but the wife wasn't amused.

Two thumbs up!

Hahaha, so this isn't date-night material? I actually screened this for my department's Halloween movie night Friday... mostly college kids in attendance. One girl got really mad at the end and wondered why I showed it. Nearly everyone was impressed that it didn't go where they expected it to. Here's the controversial reaction from Sundance (nsfw and mild spoilers contained):

I have yet to see the film but I can imagine what it is like, most likely horror porn. I am huge huge horror film buff and quit honestly I agree with the guy in the video. Horror porn to me is a waste there is no value it doesn't scary me (the whole point of horror films) it just makes me want to puke.

Movies like:

The Exorcist
Let the Right One In
The Ring
Halloween (First One)
etc...

Are all good horror films with some gore in it but there is a story line and it scares you. This horror porn shit has no story line it is all about lets see how gross we can be. Basically it is porn instead of no story line and just sex scenes, it is no story line and just gore scenes.

IF that is your cup of tea great but it sucks becasue it has watered down the horror genre of actually scary good movies.

Best part of the film is when the guy who is trying to clam him down says "Can I just please finish one sentence?" and the complaining guy says "I doubt it." Had me rolling.

I'd have to say this is unlike what most consider "torture porn." There's actually a really interesting story in The Woman. Most brainless torture porns get slammed by critics... The Woman got an 80% on RT.

I'd also argue that my favorite horror movie, Martyrs, is often mistaken as torture porn.
