I'll just go ahead and tell you guys since it seems to be a false rumor anyway. Well not a false rumor but one that's not such a big deal, plus it's the holidays. One of the guys I was talking about was Jimmy Clausen. I dropped the clue right in here http://www.thewarpath.net/869792-post110.html Anyway, it was more of a "Clausen might be available this offseason for cheap, maybe even for nothing. He could be a good choice to bring in" But from doing a bit more gathering, it seems like that would be more of a due diligence "how can you not at least consider the option, especially if it costs us nothing" move But I'll keep the other name quiet a little longer. It would be potentially be a franchise altering move.

If you say "franchise altering" I imagine the type of QB would be an established, franchise QB. Is that right?

Well, "franchise altering" in that he probably wouldn't be a cheap acquisition.

I'm still trying to figure which idiot franchise would get rid of their franchise QB?? Did Vinny get hired on as GM somewhere? They most likely have tons of faith in their backup or whoever they plan to draft to replace that person.

I would give Clausen a try, I've suggested this in the past, also Brady Quinn. They can't be worse than Beck and have shown some flashes, I think with the right coaching they could be better like Alex Smith.

I'm curious what will happen with Quinn. He had a good summer and seems to have maybe restored his reputation a bit.

That insider said that it (the intel) was based off the fact that if both RGIII and Barkley stayed in school, which appears to be the case. I quoted him directly to the info he got on the Peyton thing. They bring in PM as a FA, and draft somebody like Tannehill. Clausen? Meh.... I want to say couldn't be worse than Beck, but then realized it probably could be.

I don't think anyone could be worse than Beck I think I said the guy I'm talking about is young (not Young, just young) so I don't believe Manning fits that mold

Re: Matt Barkley Stays (QB Draft Prospect Thread-Episode IV)
I'll say it again, I would take Sanchez in a heartbeat, with the right coaching he could turn out to be what has been expected all along.

Re: Matt Barkley Stays (QB Draft Prospect Thread-Episode IV)
Theres no way I want to break the bank for an existing QB with a few years on him.
I'd rather start fresh on the draft.

1) Indy cut Peyton and he become a FA 2) RGIII and Barkley didn't declare Not sure you would be breaking the bank on Manning as a Free Agent really, and give him just enough contract years to groom a QB you choose to draft during that time. I would be fine with this scenario as long as it didn't mean us giving draft picks. Now not sure about the rumor Smoot is talking about in regards to "franchise altering", but he did mention that the QB was young so I would gather he had more than just a "few" years left.

1)RGIII stays. Rams end up with #1, we trade for Bradford. They draft Luck. 2) RGIII stays. Colts end up with #1, we draft a developmental QB in 2nd round and bring in a Peyton Manning(if healthy) if he is cut by the Colts. 3) RGIII declares. We move up in the draft to select him #2. These are the few scenarios I see going down. Hopefully options 1 or 3 don't cost us too much.

If we don't get Luck or RGIII, I would trade down and go get Foles.

Re: Matt Barkley Stays (QB Draft Prospect Thread-Episode IV)
Didn't the Colts owner just come out and say that if Manning plays in 2012, it will be with the Colts?
I'd say there is .00001% chance Manning will be with the Redskins next year. The whole Sam Bradford thing is interesting... but I just don't see them dumping him after 2 seasons with a terrible supporting cast. Is there any heat around Jake Locker? That's who I wanted the Skins to get this past draft... I like him and think he'd be a good fit for the system... I doubt the Titans have any interest in moving him... but it's a name no one has said yet... lol
