I don't think Janoris is the walking arrest that Pac Man was.

Re: Redskins: 2012 Off-Season-Free Agency/Trades
I wouldn't be surprised if the Redskins go into the season with Gomes starting at strong safety. He didn't play either good or bad as a rookie, but I'm betting he'll develop into a quality player over time. Bruce Allen drafted Gomes for a reason, I'm sure.

i think Grimes is tagged. i think Gomes is alright but in this defense you need a very good and active safety. i really just hope laRon comes back but not likely

2012 age for 1st round projected CBs: Claiborne - 22 Gilmore - 22 Boykin - 22 Kirkpatrick - 23 Jenkins - 24 To put context on that number, Johnathan Joseph signed with the Texans after a five year career in Cincinnati, and went to the pro bowl at age 27 for the first time. Claiborne, Gilmore, and Boykin will all be free agents before that age. I think he's a first round value, but it's more troublesome that he's advanced in age compared to the other players at his position at the top of the draft than it is that it is that he's got a bunch of kids or got kicked off the Florida Gators.

Re: Redskins: 2012 Off-Season-Free Agency/Trades
hes not 24 utnil the end of october, hes 23 which is an average rookie age. I would love this pick in the second round if we still have that pick and hes still there.

If we get Janoris in the 2nd I'll be happy.

The bigger point is that he's 15-21 months older than his peers, with "his peers" meaning "other first round draft picks at the CB position." That's the bigger deal with his age. In other context, he's a couple months younger than Carlos Rogers was on draft day 2005, and that more than anything prevented Rogers from getting a second contract here.

Re: Redskins: 2012 Off-Season-Free Agency/Trades
I really don't get the BFD on the age issue. Players will come and go all the time and new ones will need to be drafted to replace them. As long as they have talent and can help the team then there should be no issue. This team should always be looking to upgrade at every position no matter what age the players are.

One year is generally not a big deal here and there, but if you've got juniors and seniors committed for the draft in the 21-22 range at cornerback projected to go in the first round, it's a meaningful difference to instead opt for a 23.5 year old on draft day. Jenkins is going to get picked above any talents in the next tier, but I had no choice but to drop him b/c of his birthday when compared to the top talents in the same draft. I think he probably lasts into the second round, when someone will probably take him there for his abilities. Not knowing the effect of someones age on draft profile isn't the same thing as saying it doesn't matter. It has to matter on some level.

If a player is talented enough, he'll get taken regardless of advanced age. The NFL has an insatiable need for really good college players. They'll just be devalued somewhat.

That second round pick is to be used on Ben Jones, Mike Adams, or Stepen Hill. Someone on offense. This year the focus is offense.

If you are arguing that there is no age difference between Kerrigan and Jenkins in terms of development, are you also arguing that you can't predict one's career any better than the others? Nothing you are saying I disagree with except your conclusion. You're saying that age doesn't matter because YOU can't predict development/decline based on age. I'm saying NFL teams have to be sharp enough to consider it, even if THEY can't tell you exactly what it means. I think we can at least suggest that if a couple of months of age matter in development, then we can't rule out that there might be an exponential effect to years instead of months. I have no evidence to prove this in football, but it makes logical sense, which is good enough for now.
