Re: Draft Strategy after the first round

Very good article on Phillip Thomas the FS from Syracuse...(I'm gonna bet Phillip Thomas will be a Washington Redskin when the draft ends)

Will Syracuse Saftey Phillip Thomas join the Redskins? « BMITCHLIVE

Re: Draft Strategy after the first round

I'll be surprised if the Redskins even look at the Offensive side of the ball because they've been weaken so much on the Defensive side because of Free Agency. They have no back up DEs or CBs because they're all free agents.

That was a nice article. Hopefully he lands with the Redskins on draft day.

Im with you...In mind Fletch has to come back period. But if he goes somewhere else, ILB becomes primary need, top of list b/c we dont have a starter there.

SS thanks for the post, i've heard Tandy's name but havent seen him play. Looks like a solid sleeper even though he played for a garbage program in college.

Chances are definitely better than 50/50 that Fletcher returns.

What did he improve that 40 time to? 4.74 is pretty slow.

Shameless self-promotion. It is what it is.

Only by a tenth at the pro day (4.67), and that's his issue... His game speed is just as slow as his clock/timed speed. I still think he'll be a steal or us, or whatever team selects him.

I did notice that. I was going to comment on his 40 time but I decided not to. Traditionally safeties aren't really that fast. As long a safety plays within the position and doesn't allow the ball to go deep since he's the final line of defense, it'll be okay. This kid from Syracuse is well liked by a few teams including the Redskins.

Perhaps the Redskins will draft Vontaze Bufict in the 6th or 7th round if he's there. I doubt very seriously that teams will draft him high. After a lousy combine and a lackluster pro day, Burfict's stock certainly lowered. But at Arizona State he was a tremendous talent. He just needs some coaching. If the Redskins do draft him and coach him properly, he'll be a tackling machine like London Fletcher.

But, I don't even think he's willing to be coached. I think he has an ego.

Re: Draft Strategy after the first round

I'm excited to learn about all of these prospects. Because the draft is so weak in regards to safeties, will that push guys to at that position be drafted higher than they should?

Re: Draft Strategy after the first round

Please dear God just once I would like the team to indulge on selecting offensive lineman. No more Linebackers, DB's, and WR's in the third and fourth rounds unless they're amazing value picks like Hankerson.

I just don't think that the draft is as weak at S as it is said to be. Two players that I like very much, Markelle Martin (OK ST) and Brandon Taylor (LSU) could be there when we pick in the 3rd Round. I haven't seen Trumaine Johnson (MT) or Phillip Thomas (SYR) play but some people think they are very good.

Another reason I don't perceive the draft to be as weak at S as some say is that there are also some college CB's who I like a lot who might be a step slow to play CB in the NFL but who could be converted to FS. I think that Casey Hayward (VANDY), Jamell Fleming (OU), and DeQuan Menzie (AL) could be considered as FS prospects.

Just my 2 cents, but I think that there will be somebody there for us a S in the draft.

Meanwhile, I wouldn't mind it if the Skins could sign FA safety Madieu Williams.
