I think Kelly was a disappointment because of his injuries. Outside of Zorn's comments during Thomas and Kelly's rookie year about both of them not being in shape, I don't think I've seen or read anything about Kelly not putting the effort to play. In the end, a wide receiver with recurring knee problems is not going to work out. Especially one who misses a lot of practice time and games in their first year due to these injuries.
I really don't care much for Kelly, but I just don't see how you can blame him for having bad knees. The bigger disappointment was our stupid FO who took a player who was known to have injury problems. Don't forget that the team, including Shanahan, gave Kelly a lot of time to return and show that he's healthy. If he wasn't putting much of an effort, he would or if his injury wasn't "that big of a deal" he would have been long gone.
