Banks has a 40 time of 4.23. I remember speedsters like Willie Gault, Renaldo Neimiah, our own Darrell Green, and Ron Brown from way back in the days. These men had world class speed and broke a punt return for a TD or for a long gain almost every time they fielded a punt. With the exception of Green and maybe Gault, Banks is just about as fast if not faster than those other punt returners were during that era. Why Banks only returns punts for touchdowns during preseason only is beyond me.

Show me where, because I am sure he ran a 4.5.

Shameless self-promotion. It is what it is.

I think you're really overvaluing the careers that Gault and Nehemiah had

The point that I'm making is Gault was still considered a dangerous return man during his days in the NFL. So was Renaldo. Sometimes speed doesn't always translate into pro owl visits for special teams returners. Banks, in my opinion, still hasn't lived up to his potential.

I'm not old enough to remember who you're talking about, but Banks only has straight-line speed. If he can get a decent enough hole to get through he can make big plays. But you never notice him weaving through crowds or making guys miss the way Hester does. Guys know if they maintain gap control and get a hand on him he's easy to contain. It's just a matter of them maintaing focus at that point.

But that was Banks from the starting line, going the opposite way around the world to the finish line. Scientists haven't developed a measurement small enough to measure the amount of time Brandon runs a straight 40 time. He runs the 40 in far less than a picosecond! :cheeky-sm

Interestingly, by my link Moss used to be capable of running a 4.31. I think the figures before digital timing should be thrown out, even Green's mark.

I still say Banks is our best return option. If only we could avoid block-in-the-back penalties.

edit: Had to throw this pic up while reading, lol.
