Slaton didn't have to clear waivers, so that's inaccurate. As soon as he was cut he became a free agent. Possible that the Skins are waiting until after week one so that his contract isn't guaranteed. They've been interested in Slaton for a while, so I seriously doubt they suddenly lost interest overnight. I think they're just trying to be smart about it. That said though, their interest was largely due to not expecting Helu to be ready. If he is, then that could impact their decision.

Someone, I think ESPN980, reported that the Redskins tried to add Texans G Shelley Smith but he was claimed by the Rams and I know they tried to add Texans C Cody Wallace but the Bucs claimed him

I remember him a few years ago, when they said he'd be a perfect find for the ZBS. Oh well. DeAngelo Peterson on the other hand was a great pickup for the PS.
