Re: Overall Draft Grade for the Redskins
I gave a B. I like the picks but like many folks would have liked to see more D line taken. A good job was done in selecting talent from each round. Immediate needs were not really addressed, big WR being the exception, but I see a lot of the future from these picks.

Re: Overall Draft Grade for the Redskins
It's real simple.
I hear Riggo singing the praises of the Skins recent draft. He re-iterates the apparent praises of the Skins draft from "Jaws". His next statement says it all regarding the negativity surrounding same. "Non-football" people often make mistakes about such things............................well said

It's just really nice to hear some people giving the Skins credit. I'm a little nervous about some of the picks, but a lot of people in the know have good things to say.

Great offensive lines are critical. An average receiver can get open if he has enough time. Most corners can cover any receiver if they know they only need to cover the guy for 3 seconds because that is all the time their defensive line will need to get to the QB. Of all fans we should know that with the Hogs. They could make any QB look good because they could sit back and wait for someone to get open. Before last year, Brady never really had a superstar WR but he had a great line and could just pick defenses apart. Superbowl time he got pressured and even with Moss he failed. Romo was lights out until his line got injured and he started getting pressured. |

Re: Overall Draft Grade for the Redskins
The way some people talk here you'd think we didn't have Samuels, Kendall, Rabach, Thomas, and Jansen starting.
"But they're getting old, and can they stay healthy?" Fine, but it's not like ARE and Moss have found the fountain of youth or have shown a propensity to stay healthy.

I have no problems with the guys drafted and think they have potential. I just think Snyder was overzealous with wanting a big game receiver and put all his chips in one basket. I was happy with Thomas and thought trading down was a great move. I just think drafting a second TE and another receiver instead of a defensive or offensive lineman was iffy. Finding a second TE to play in those packages that require a second TE is not as critical as having a dependable lineman that plays every down IMO. |

Re: Overall Draft Grade for the Redskins
Well until someone can prove their a better LT than Samuels, that job is his. Heyer and Alexander have a ways to go but they have plenty of promise. So do Rinehart and this guy they got from Appalachian State.
You've got to have some faith in Joe Bugel. He's proven himself for over two decades as a coach. It doesn't matter if you have all day to throw if you have no one to throw to

Re: Overall Draft Grade for the Redskins
Just to be clear, my stance on the receivers is as follows
-At this moment Santana Moss is unquestionably our most valuable wide receiver. When healthy, he's a game changer. I think he's perfectly capable of being a #1 WR. HOWEVER, he needs a solid #2 on the other side of the field from him. FURTHERMORE, he has not been able to stay consistently healthy. -Randle El is a solid WR who is probably a bit in over his head trying to be a #2 WR. Particualarly when the #1 is Santana Moss -I have the utmost respect for Caldwell, McCardell, and Thrash. Solid contributors who, for the most part, did their part. But two are gone. And the third probably needs to go soon. Plus we can't fall back on guys like that and the Jimmy Farris' of the world each time we have injuries to our wide receivers, which has happened plenty the last several years (Patten, Lloyd, ARE, Moss, Thrash all out for extended games) -I'm sure Mix has plenty of potential. Let's see it -Devin Thomas' upside is...unknown. I was stunned he fell to us. -As is Malcolm Kelly's. Yet I think Kelly will have the more immediate impact. I think over the next several years, Moss and Thomas will be our star WRs. But they should be thanking Malcolm Kelly for making it easy for them. I was thrilled we got him when we got him. -When I say no one to throw to, I mean if the starters are hurt. -What I'd like to see this year. Moss 1, Kelly 2, ARE/Thomas 3 (and then we'll see about the rest) -So I don't think my opinion has changed. I want to give Moss every opportunity to be the #1 WR. He's earned it. But he needs help and he needs to stay healthy.

Yes they're on the wrong side of 30 but we caught some bad breaks (literally) last year with Jansen and Thomas. I doubt we'll see another season where 2 of the 5 starters go down. And I keep seeing people say we didn't address the line. Does Rinehart not count? Is Heyer not a good find from last year? |

I guess you didn't mind Moss and ARE combining for 4 TDs last year?

Re: Overall Draft Grade for the Redskins
I know your goal is to equalize the debate, but I'm wondering if anything has happened to your perception of Moss and Randle El to lead you to the conclusion that neither can be relied on for anything this year. Beyond the injury risk, I mean.

Re: Overall Draft Grade for the Redskins
I didn't because all the touchdowns went to Cooley, who just can't be covered in the red zone.
