What do you think a rookie 6th round DE would be doing?

I also base my statement on the fact that Gibbs waited til the last game to put him in. No way he could vie for a spot with only a half under his belt. Just drafting a guy for the practice squad is moronic, at least if a DE was drafted the kid had a much better chance of making the team and contributing on the field. How does Palmer help out on the practice squad? Gibbs needed to give the kid a taste week one to get him wet and give him time to get something going. I just think drafting a kid to go directly to the practice squad is a waste. A draftee should be able to vie for a starting job or at least give you some solid depth.

Re: Skins v Jags chat

Game over.
Thank Goodness!

At least our 1st and 2nd string offense could move the ball.
But I'm disappointed in Palmer.
Blades is ok, Mason is solid.
I dont know jack about our Dline though.
Too bad we'll never know how Collins would fare as a backup QB.
I was hoping to see Brandon Lloyd do something...anything.
Time is showing that he aint improving. ARE?....about the same as last year.

The only real difference is our LG issues, MLB improvement, Safety improvement, nickle improvement, and questions about Portis.
All in all....moderately better than last year, Defense probably ranked 10-15 this year. Offense about the same.
Playoffs would be nice...we'd have to avoid all injuries.

No depth in the DB is going to be our major Achilles heel.

The back-ups played well enough to make some cuts easy. Looked like they all just wanted to go home.

Guess what undrafted player has started at left tackle for all 4 preseason games and is most likely gonna make the squad as a backup at left tackle?

Do you get the point now? The Redskins are not absolutely horrible when it comes to finding talent in the latter rounds of the draft.
I get your point but this has nothing to do with Cooley...3rd round was one of our top picks that year. Rock is arguably in danger, The LT guy is a backup at best...and keep in mind, he's a lineman, not a QB.

Top QBs are usually in the top 4 rounds...linemen and RB's can be found deeper. This aint my argument, I was chimming in.
I would rather they spend the pick on a guard or a Dlineman...thats all.

Am I being too hard on the guy...absolutely....is it fair? no...
But, the fact is he sucked tonight....no one can argue against that.

All I'm trying to say is that you are expecting too much out of Palmer.

EDIT: Damnit Matty you beat me to it lol.
Have to play the odds Mooby. Do you think Palmer is going to get out of the practice squad for us? Odds are he isn't. We needed a D linemen and we got a QB we didn't need, and wasn't too well though of since he was a 6th rounder. Brady going 6th round was a shocker anyway. Michigan Qb's make good NFL QB's usually. Anyway, a 6th round linemen has a better shot of making the team than a qb, like I said before, simple supply and demand, plus the nature of the position. A situation like Brady happens once in a generation, if not lifetime.

And the Redskins scouting dept aint gunna be the ones to find them.
Top 2 pick for the skins are the only ones that seem to do anything.
Blades might be a good story for us...but that is not a stand alone position like a QB
Hey, he's the one that said never. I simply disputed that.

Re: Skins v Jags chat

The defense looks good so far so we can't complain about the d-line too much. The Redskins will definitely address it next offseason. We already have two defensive tackles that the coaches love that we picked up last year in the draft, so all we really need is a defensive end.

Ok then, name a DE that was a 6th round pick or later this year that is slated to be a #2 backup in this league.

You can't get much deeper than what we have in the secondary. Smoot and Macklin will be fine as the #3 and #4 in the nickel package.

We're in a much better position now than where we were last year.

No depth at DB? What are you talking about?

It's one of the deepest spots on the roster, if not the deepest.

Re: Skins v Jags chat

Agreed. We have Smoot and Macklin and Jimoh to backup at cornerback. We have (Pray-low) and Stoutmire and Doughty and Fox to backup at safety. Doughty or Fox might not make the squad but still. Smoot and Stoutmire and (Pray-low) didn't play tonight. The players you saw play tonight are the scrubs that will be gone after Saturday.

Also, there is not doubt in my mind that H.B. Blades will be our back up MLB. So yes he makes the roster.
