I disagree...at this point, all we need is a legit #1 WR.
However, I am not buying into the hype...this is not even a 500 team yet.
Remember, we were 4-12 last year...but we were a BAD 4-12 team....look at the teams we beat and who we lost to...this team was HORRIBLE last year...we'd be lucky to get to 7 wins....

To my point with a legit #1 WR...if we had a stud...yeah...we could win another game/two max...otherwise, get used to a ton of TE's playing the slot with a ton of deep patterns to try to draw the secondary away from them.

Regarding my way too early prediction of 7-9 at best...I will hold judgement until I see a few preseason games...I think last year I predicted 6-10...I was obviously wrong....but I was definately not drinking the Kool aid like many here are doing again.

I don't know if it's kool-aid or just looking at the improvements that have been made. Problem areas from last year... QB, OL, RB have all been upgraded. The coaching staff needless to say has been tremendously upgraded, and the front office changes have brought an entirely new and positive atmosphere to the team. Too early for predictions but the 8-10 win range shouldn't be out of reach.

With no legit WR's?, questionable LB's and coverage safeties? a new defensive scheme, untested kicker? rookie LT and an Oline that has never played together? a new QB, new Offense?...the only thing truly legit on our team are our TE's...and perhaps a solid QB...if he plays 16 games, which is unlikely.

I'm kinda suprised Matty that you are already "sipping" the Kool aid before seeing a single play against competion in preseason.

This squad is not equiped to compete with the top 12 teams in the league...not even close....next year after getting a top RB and WR....maybe.

Yeah a lot has to come together, but is .500 really sipping the kool-aid? (By the way that phrase has to go, it's definitely played out).

I'm honestly not as concerned about the defensive side of the ball as some seem to be. There is talent there and a scheme change is not going to be all that difficult.

As for the WRs McNabb worked with a lot less for most of his career in Philly. And we'll undoubtedly see Cooley and Davis worked into the mix as both are talented enough to split out. And who knows, TO is still out there.

All in all I just don't think that 8-8 is all that crazy. 10-6 if things really come together quickly.

Re: Report: Redskins Have Traded for Jammal Brown

We have had the talent. I attribute alot of last year to coaching and the offensive line. We got those two areas fixed so 8-8 or 10-6 is definately in the realm of possibility.

As far as WR I think we will be fine for this year at the position. Let's see how DM improves the position just by being the leader of the offense.

I really see our 2 TE as a huge asset and could see Fred Davis become Mike's next Shannon Sharpe. he has a very similiar skill set.

The way Mike used Shannon could be employed with FD. He played all over the field, lining up a WR and TE.

With our versitility in that area you could see both cooley and davis rotated all over the field.

Re: Report: Redskins Have Traded for Jammal Brown

I think 8-8 as a distinct possibility but this is a team that could just as easily be 10-6 as 6-10 and anything in between. A lot depends on how quickly Trent Williams assimilates into the NFL and Jammal Brown reclaims his form from 2 years ago. Let's not forget that we are in a divison that features arguably 2 of the top 5 defensive lines in the league.

Then McNabb will have to learn a new system, the WRs have shown nothing...absolutely nothing, questionable safety+corner situation, and a stable of old, creaky backs.

But...we have young studs in Fred Davis and Brian Orakpo. If fat Albert plays then we have a very strong defensive front with AH, Carter, Orakpo, Fletcher etc. DMac has been pretty successful with less than stellar WR play in the past. Perhaps most importantly -- we have proven coaches (MS, KS, JH) who will bring innovation and discipline to the locker room and a competent GM, both of whom have installed discipline in the locker room as well as a solid roster going forward.

RUN , RUN , and RUN some more . If we can run , the OL will be better , less predictable on offense . Either DT or MK will make some plays , maybe even some big plays now that we have a coach and QB that are not afraid to throw downfield . If we run , we can compete , we can't run ... we are in for a long season , IMO .

If the OL isn't better, how are we supposed to run? and how exactly is an improved running game going to improve the play and predictability of the OL?

Offensive lines love running the football. It is a building block for a cohesive unit. these big guys love running the football and if we have some success early it will help build the guys confidence as a unit thus improving our play.

Ok , if the OL is not better , than throwing would get McNabb killed and we would have our defense on the field far too long . I do think with the additions of T. Williams , J. Brown at Tackle , Hicks ( T-G ) BIG M. Williams having a year under his belt , and Rinehart healthy , we should be < I hope > , better . We also have 2 more RB's who with CP, , should be able to make a solid grind it out running game ..... if we can't run the ball ... like I said , we are done . As far as predictability , if we are pounding the other team , we have set up play action , maybe even forcing the D to put 8 in the box .

I have to agree with skinsnut that I am tired of predicting a good season and then I end up bashing my head into a wall about week 6. I've done it for years now so I have a new approach, modest expectations.
I do think if we go 8-8 that is a very positive year for us. Hell it's double the win column from last year. Not to mention the schedule this year is brutal, polar opposite of last year's when we could only manage 4 wins against the little sisters of the poor. 10-6 is overzealous. 8-8 this season and I will be very pleased with all the new changes melding together, etc. Let's face it this is going to take time and there will be growing pains.

Re: Report: Redskins Have Traded for Jammal Brown

Completely agree with killromo ^^. Zorn was nowhere near ready to lead the Redskins and the 4 wins were a gift considering how easy the schedule was.
With the much more difficult schedule, much improved offensive line, and yet another offensive system, 10-6 would be phenomenal. 6-10 to 8-8 is the much more practical goal with 8-8 being a very good season.

Make no mistake...we are rebuilding.

8-8 would be a very impressive season in my eyes, in part because the defense does worry me quite a bit. The d-line (I assume AH is not in the mix by the start of the season) is arguably the worst we've had in a long time, and easily the worst in the division. Kemo = ?, Carriker = ?, the other guys are either underwhelming vets like Holiday or no-name rookies and 2nd yr players.

I guess my expectation is we see a lot of high scoring games, and if we're lucky we'll win about half. That said, it should be exciting football again (finally) because of the offense. I'm just preparing to be frustrated w/ the defense.
