Re: More signs the world is coming to an end (Peter King news)
Brunell is 36 and has played for countless years and this team for two, (as a different quarterback each time, one good, one abysmal) what's he got left to learn?? give him a quarter max every pre-season game. the rest Campbell.
um, yeah ok Brunell should develop chemistry with the new pair of receivers and whole new offensive coordinator thing blah, blah, blah. admittedly not so minor things, but man, i just want to jumpstart on Campbell now, and really see what the future of this franchise looks like.

Re: More signs the world is coming to an end (Peter King news)
I agree that Peter King said experienced starter. I consider that as someone with about 3-5 years of playing experience under their belt.
Illdefined, I'm with you. I'm ready for the Campbell era. I simply do not trust Mark Brunell, when completely healthy he plays a really solid game, but the slightest knick seems to send him into 2004 mode. Gibbs doesn't have the heart (hes often too patient, in my opinion) to pull him and Brunell won't sit himself down for fear of losing his job like Ramsey did. I just don't feel Brunell can stay healthy enough to lead us to where we need to go, and I don't think we should have to rely on Campbell late in the year to win games when he hasn't hardly played before. Hopefully I'm wrong and Brunell has another good year and stays injury free, but seeing as he can't make it through "non-contact" drills without breaking a finger, I'm a bit on edge.

point taken, I really hope that campbell show flashes of a starting caliber quarterback, I think that if brunells play drops hopefully saunders will have the co-honeys to sit him and give jason a chance.

Re: More signs the world is coming to an end (Peter King news)
One of the local channels here was showing a replay of a game in 2004, Auburn vs LSU where JC tossed a game winning TD in the last couple of minutes.
I've got to say it was pretty cool to watch him and know that he's now the 'Skins future QB. I never payed much attention to him in college, but he seemed pretty poised in the pocket. Great arm, good accuracy, and he seemed to deal with the pressure from the D really well. He didn't strike me as quite as athletic as I expected or heard. I'm not saying he was like Drew Bledsoe in the pocket, but he didn't move any better than any other pocket passer. Maybe I just had a mistaken impression, but I thought he could run pretty well for some reason.

Re: More signs the world is coming to an end (Peter King news)
Why people are always so ready to dump Mark Brunell is a mystery to me. If we go to a second year quarterback, we won't be likely to have a shot at winning the Super Bowl. We go backwards. Bringing Jason Campbell along slowly is the best thing for his development.
Artificially removing a highly talented veteran quarterback in Mark Brunell who lead us from being ranked about 30th in offense to I think 11th, who took us to a game away from the NFC Championship, who has such fine leadership ability and who did such great work basically having one wide receiver last year who could function at a high level - that would be a recipe for regression. I wish people would support Mark Brunell, appreciate him for the outstanding player that he is. I believe that most Redskin fans do. Campbell's time will come - but I think not this season or next. |

Re: More signs the world is coming to an end (Peter King news)
I hope Brunell is healthy and ready to go for the entire season, but a cursory look at his stats don't tell the whole story of his season. While his rating was solid, and we made it to the playoffs, that rating doesn't take into accounts the 10 fumbles he had last season - of which we lost six. in the first eight games alone, he lost every fumble he had (four). To me a QB fumble in the pocket is more devestating than an interception - it's usually a sin of inaction, rather than a sin of aggression. One is forgivable, the other is harder to stomach.
That being said, I want Campbell to succeed as a Redskin QB. That means putting him in the best position to do so, not throwing him into the deep end to see if he can swim.

Re: More signs the world is coming to an end (Peter King news)
i agree with the fumble part.it seems to me that he holds the ball very low in the pocket. its almost at waist level. i can think of 2 fumbles where if he would simply hold the ball up a little higher he wouldn't have fumbled.(tb game, and denver i think)

Re: More signs the world is coming to an end (Peter King news)
I just thought I'd point out that bringing Campbell along slowly or "letting him marinate" as someone said is no surefire guarantee that we'll have ourselves a superstar for the next 10 years.
Some QBs thrive when they start immediately, some do well with a couple of years to warm the bench and learn. Others suck no matter when you start them. Conventional wisdom says let the rookie QB spend a couple of seasons learning before tossing him into the mix. I'm just trying to be realistic about Campbell - I'm excited for him and I know everyone here can't wait to see him play and succeed, but we currently really know nothing of how he'll do. We could have the next Patrick Ramsey or Sage Rosenfels or Heath Shuler or who knows who else. Let's not latch on to the guy and assume that just because he's being brought along slowly that he's our savior. Hindsight is 20-20, but if Campbell turns out to suck the balls, everyone is going to be saying we should have started him sooner and found out that he sucked sooner rather than later instead of wasting 2-3 seasons. I guess if he sucks we'll be complaining one way or another ![]()

dmek is always a very friendly cat.
Typically he and I have the good morning tradition, so I'm going to have to say a belated good afternoon due to my busy schedule today.
