Now that's the most ridiculous and idiotic statement I have ever heard. Apparently you must only tune into the game when the team is on offense. My 7 year old niece and tackle alot better than what I've been seeing.

But for the record I agree with you about the D, and how that is a greater issue. I still want Campbell in, but if I had a choice, do something about the D.

That's my point too....I'm looking forward to seeing what Campbell can do...but even if Campbell comes in and plays like Superman, it isn't going to fix our defense's problems, and I don't believe our defense's problems should be down played any.

There are lots of variations of this argument floating around. I guess the standard for benching a qb is that he has to be the worst component on the team. If you can point out another area that is worse than him, defense, punting, whatever, somehow you jump to the conclusion that he should still play.

Look, if we could bench some of those guys on defense we would, but we don't have any depth there, that's the problem. With the qb situation we at least can try a new course.

How many times has a young qb come in and rallied a talented team that was floundering. When Brady got the call in 02 the Patriots were 0-2, having been blown out their first two games by considerable margins. They ended up winning the superbowl. Big Ben took a 1-1 Steelers team to 15 straight wins. Even if that doesn't happen with Campbell, we can't possibly be any worse...

Brady and Roethlisberger are exceptions to the rule of course. The case for benching Brunell in my opinion is that it could psychologically boost the team. Players are more likely to play inspired for a new QB than they are for a new right DE. I don't think all the blame can be heaped upon Brunell but I'm sure he has known since he put on shoulder pads in pop warner and took the field as quarterback that there has to be someone on the team that falls on the grenade and that's often the QB.

Like I have been saying in other threads, I dont think giving up alot of yards a bad thing, but we just gotta get those turnovers and we are money.

Let me apologize to skinsguy, I am just frustrated at the whole situation and took it out on skinsguy. It just baffels me how you go 10-6 and then you cannot win more than 2 games the next year.

No problem...apology accepted. Hey, I'm just as frustrated. I really felt the changes we made during the off-season were ones that could only improve us...and I think that is so on offense, but apparently no so much on our defense.

Re: Gibbs Press Conference:

I too am ready for campbell to come in, but not only for the future of the team, but I think he can give us a better chance to win now. Brunell for whatever reason will not throw down-field and doesn't spread the ball around well. Because of this every team we play is going to play up tight and our run game will and has already suffered. Teams will have to respect Campbell's arm and that will open up the run.

As for the idea that we shouldn't bench Brunell because the defense is the biggest problem, that may be true, but improving point production can only help get us closer to wins. Let's put it this way keeping Brunell in won't help the defense get a wink better. I don't have an answer for that.

Certainly improving point production will help, but don't expect Campbell to come in and suddenly the offense is explosive. Let's not kid ourselves, Campbell has had very little (preseason only) playing time, and if anything, I'd expect our point production to take a drop for awhile until Campbell settles down.

Re: Gibbs Press Conference:

I don't know how many members we have here, but I'd be willing to bet if any of us had ten minutes, and two questions for Gibbs and Saunders, I know what they would be. Why do you continue to start Brunell when you can clearly see we're not going to win anything with him? Why wont you call plays for the ball to go downfield as opposed to 5 or 6 yd. passes regardless of down and distance? No diplomatic answers, just straight talk, Why? Why? Why?

Re: Gibbs Press Conference:

campbell throws great deep balls and average short/intermediate ones... might as well go back to the playbook from 91 and see what happens.

Interesting thought, but I don't think Rypien could run as well as Campbell. We need some bootlegs built in for him.
