I think Gibbs is smart enough to realize that w/out players you have no team. Plus he had nothing to do w/ the defense. That was all Ritchie.

Beathard kissed media ass, that was why he was so popular and given so much credit.

I think Jerry Jones had a similar vision of the Boys when JJ left

Let's not be so quick to dismiss Gibbs' impact on that team. For starters, he's the one who lured Doug Williams to the Redskins. But more importantly, it was Joe Gibbs that coached a bunch of no-name guys like QB Ed Rubbert, RB Lionel Vital, and DE Steve Martin (not that one) to a 3-0 record during the "replacement weeks" of that season. While other teams had inner turmoil with players crossing the picket line, Gibbs kept that unit of "scab" players together for three pivotal weeks.

Don't forget it was also Gibbs who personally convinced John Riggins to come out of retirement and come back to the Redskins.

Oh please God let us sign Floyd Reese. I would suddenly become optimistic about the Redskins again...

Vince Young over Leinert was the right choice!

Maybe, but it sure would have been interesting to see what Leinert could have done given his familiarity with Chow's offense.

Young is more in the mold of McNair. Short term vs Long term when it comes to this debate.

Not to mention he values Draft picks.

As much as I'd love to see it, I just cannot imagine Gibbs & Co. (the front office version) tossing up their hands and saying, "forget it, let's bring somebody else to do this job, [an outsider, no less] and we will shut up, and go along with whatever they say."

Just ain't happenin'.

I agree and I don't think it will ever be seriously considered. I think this is the last thing Joe really has to prove in the NFL, that he can build his own team and win with it, or that it can win. I think that Joe will probably end up in the front office after he leaves coaching again...I don't know that that's the best idea, but I think that's what will happen.

I really agree that there are too many egos to allow Reese to come in and take over. However, I could see him coming in and making everything more chaotic around the whole team...

I really can't imagine Gibbs being that interested in acquiring a GM because that's the position he looks foreward to having whenever he decides he no longer want's to coach the team. Going 5-11 on the season, he has said he will look at any, and everything that will help the team, but when pressed on the issue of hiring a GM, he maintained "we're satisfied with the FO structure the way it is", so I guess that sort of answers our question. As I've said before, the decision to hire a GM will have to come from Snyder, and I'm not going to hold my breath on that one.

True. I'm not real excited about Gibbs the GM, though. I hope his desire to step back and play GM after "retiring" doesn't hurt us.

No doubt. That is also my perception. Although, I don't really like that attitude. It's kinda arrogant and stubborn.

If the Skins were to bring in Reese would he also want his people under him to go with him as well (i.e. would he try to bring all his scouting guys in and boot the ones at Redskin Park out?). What would happen to Louis Riddick if someone like Reese was brought in?
