Re: Giants keeping Coughlin?

If I were a coach thinking about an NFL head coaching job, I'd run as fast as I could away from the New York Giants. No more Tiki Barber, no more Ernie Accorsi (and no replacement lined up), I'd have to deal with the outspoken Jeremy Shockey and Plaxico Burress, Strahan's getting older, and most importantly Eli Manning is definitely not the savior.

They've got no RB depth (Brandon Jacobs, that's it) and their secondary is still very suspect.

They're a team in big trouble if you ask me.

If it wasn't for his name, he wouldn't have been a first round pick, and would be a backup somewhere right now...not a bust.

Re: Giants keeping Coughlin?

I read in one report that the Giants gave Coughlin a one-year extension so that means they're on the hook to him for two seasons. Very strange...

Hmmmmm...guess I'm wrong on that one then. I agree Marty has been very good since leaving and I didn't think getting rid of him was a good idea. However, I really don't like Tom Coughlin and wanted to see him fired so it may have been selective memory on my part. It still seems to me that Plax and Shockey don't like. That team is full of turmoil, I don't know that he has too much control of it. I know he's got a decent record, I just don't know how I would feel about him trying to lead this team for another season. You've got Plax and Shockey showing Eli up on the field, Strahan basically threatening reporters and Eli taking huge steps backwards, I just wouldn't have confidence in him if I were the GM/owner.

We said Marty Schottenheimer was team killer but deep down inside we all knew he was a good coach and we let a good coach getaway. The players don't have to love Coughlin, they just have to show up and play. What Coughlin needs is a good QB and an offensive coordinator.

He's so good he basically demoralized the team and took all the fun out of playing. How'd that workout? Now their franchise player is retiring early and you have to wonder whether the game being not so fun anymore had anything to do with that. I don't think anyone ever accused Marty of totally demoralizing his teams. He may be tough and it rubs some guys a little but he was a fair guy. Have you even heard about some of the crap Coughlin pulls?

Marty wasn't a team killer, well maybe initially but by season's end he had that team running through walls for him.

Re: Giants keeping Coughlin?

Look, Coughlin made the playoffs the last two years. He has a lot of whiners on the team, but in NY, the media is just baiting htose guys to talk. I'm not a big fan of Coughlin, but his teams have consistently won the games we've been unable to--against the bad teams, when they aren't playing well, etc. And they've creamed us a few times. But I think it's going to be tough without Tiki--he carried them in a number of games over the last few years. And if Eli contiues his inconsisten mediocrity, they are in trouble.

Did Tiki carry the Giants that much against other teams or was when he just was playing against us? LOL

Coughlin back next year as Giants coach

I love it! Especially since it means no more Tiki!

Personally I think they are setting themselves up to enter the Bill Cowher bidding war after the next season. Most likely the Cowturds will be in there with them.

I wonder how LaVar feels now that they've fired Tim Lewis. That means another year another defensive coordinator for Arrington. Ah well
